Talent acquisition is not a static industry. To be successful in finding and retaining the right people, Paul has to pay careful attention to shifts in social, economic, and political norms. The last few years have been an excellent case study in the way these changing trends have forced businesses to reevaluate the way they approach recruitment. While the Covid-19 pandemic caused a radical transformation in such things as work environment and candidate expectations, Paul says that micro-transformations of a similar sort are actually happening all the time.
The key to being an effective talent manager is to be aware of the small changes happening every day and to adapt to them, rather than simply waiting for an industry-shaking catastrophe like Covid-19. Change is always happening, and a good leader attacks that change with their recruiting strategy, rather than waiting for change to attack them.
