Four NRL club chairman have stormed out of a meeting in Sydney with clubs failing to secure a funding agreement for 2018 onwards.
The competition is reportedly teetering on the edge of rebellion with relationships between the game's governing body and clubs described as being at its lowest ebb since the Super League war.
Canterbury's Ray Dib, North Queensland's Laurence Lancini, Cronulla's Damian Keogh and Melbourne's Bart Campbell left the meeting with the NRL top brass after failing to finalise a deal on club funding.
There are reportedly number of sticking points including the NRL's insistence on creating a a sinking fund to prop up failed clubs.
The clubs insist it's not their responsibility to provide funding to a failed rival club.

Individual sporting federations will be able to decide if they allow Russian athletes to compete in Rio.
Moss Burmester, who raced at the Athens and Beijing Olympics told the Devlin Radio Show it's a cop out from the IOC.
"Russia has obviously got a lot of power so therefore they're too scared really to do anything. They've gone and put it on the sport governing bodies and said to them they can make the decision."
Burmester said it's a disgrace to Pierre de Coubertin who founded the IOC and the movement's values.
"You could stand up and you could use those sort of things but now it's a joke. You even look at Sochi and how the Russians invaded while that was going on, while the Olympic truce and peace was supposed to happen.
"The athletes in there they know who the cheats are. It's pretty hard for them to talk out about it and be able to make a stand because they're in the Games, so if they do they get their heads taken off."
Burmester said the decision is soul destroying for clean athletes.

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden joined The Devlin Radio Show to discuss Isaac Luke and his form, which has come in for criticism in recent weeks, and reveals the personal struggle which may explain it.

Luke has come under fire for his monosyllabic, muted responses to questions from Radio Sport commentator Allen McLaughlin during an interview at training this week
Andrew McFadden's moved to outline the reasons behind Issac Luke's sub-par form to start the NRL season.
The Warriors coach said while that was unacceptable, there are special circumstances including complications around the birth of his fourth child.
"One, his child, although he was playing he wasn't training with us much at that time and secondly, he's had a few calf injuries and a couple of knee injuries which has just not allowed him to be on the field as much as we'd like".
McFadden said criticism of Luke's form has been fair but insists there's no question around Issac Luke's commitment to the NRL club.
"I gave the team a bit of a spray at half time last weekend. Some of that was directed at Issac as well but he came out at the second half, he scored at try, he responded. Again, we're not happy with it, he's not happy".
Luke is unhappy with his own form at the moment .
However, he says that's not an excuse in this instance.
"That's sort of unacceptable behaviour for a senior player certainly the person involved [McLaughlin] I respect him a lot and he deserved more respect".
McFadden said he has confidence Luke will get to his best.
