Andrew Douglas saw some things as a Paramedic and First Responder, that he wouldn't wish on anyone. Andrew didn't deal with the trauma of what he had been through in his years saving people's lives, and, unknown to him, his ptsd was eating him up inside and would eventually leave him literally seconds from Suicide.
Thanks goodness Andrew is still here. Just hearing him talk about his life now, how he continues to grow, and the work he is doing around Mental Health, is truly inspiring.
TRIGGER WARNING: Contains discussions of suicide.

Eric Fong joins the podcast this week for one of the most delightfully profound and honest conversations we have ever had on the show. Eric's traumas as a child came back to haunt him, and as with may of these relatable situations, Eric found himself spiraling into drink and drugs and doing seemingly everything possible to run from his feelings. After slowly losing touch with everything, including his own children, Eric knew something had to change, but still, he couldn't find the strength to stop. In this wonderfully raw and humble episode, we discuss the final straw, the intervention that would finally get Eric on the road to recovery. Eric is slowly piecing his life back together, one step at a time, and has new found success in his job as a lawyer. It's a moving and literally sobering tale, as Eric continues to work on his relationships with his children, and surround himself with love and support, as he continues on his incredible journey.

In this fascinating episode, Alisha Carlson talks about how her childhood trauma and PTSD, turned into obsessive behaviors that included borderline eating disorder and obsessive exercising which ended up bringing Alisha to a very dark place. In this highly relatable conversation, we discuss how these behaviors manifest themselves and what can be done to overcome them. Many of us are unaware that the repeated behaviors we think are comforting us, are actually having a negative effect!

Kate Kunkel is a certified Brain Heath specialist. She found herself in this vocation, in her mid sixties, because her mother died from the most cruel of diseases - dementia. Losing her one piece at a time was the most terrible thing she has ever experienced, and she swore that she would do whatever she could to ensure that nobody else ever had to suffer that fate. And that no more daughters would have to lose their mother like Kate and her Sister. Everything Kate does, she does because of this, and so, she works as a brain coach and encourage others to do whatever it takes to protect your brain. This is an amazing, heartbreaking, yet inspiring story and hope and courage. Thank you Kate.

In one of our regular After Thoughts sections, Luke and Kyle discuss the previous episode, and how it resonated with them. Naomi really went through the darkness and it took a monumental shift in her perspective to start to see the light again. A really unique and compelling episode. Naomi Geidel uses the terms, 'extended singleness' and 'childless, not by choice' as she describes her life up to this point. As the years went by, and especially as she hit her forties, Naomi went into a very dark place, and the realization of a life without a partner, or a child, became a heavy reality that she couldn't seem to deal with. This 'loss', as she describes it, has touched every area of her life and in the depths of grief it changed the confidence she had in herself and most things in the world. It was super hard and not pretty, but she leaned into this difficult season, and has come out the other side .... not perfect, yet stronger....not fully healed, yet healing. Its a fascinating and thoroughly engaging episode, and we could have talked for hours! From the bottom of the depths of darkness, she is experiencing joy again, and has the energy to create and see better days ahead. Thank you Naomi!!
