Wow, As we close out Season 2 and 2022, what better topic than 'the American dream' or nightmare as is the case with this week's guest. Fawn Gilmore Kraut lays everything bare in this honest and highly relevant episode. Born into the Republican, Church going, evangelical community, Fawn was front and centre at Political and Religious events with her parents, where she described everything revolving around the 'powerful men in the room'. She was taught to respect and obey men, as a rule, that was her job. After struggling with her own relationships, and an abusive fiancee, she had a realization that she could no longer tow the line with such beliefs and indoctrinations, and she started the journey of un-tethering herself from all that she had known. The trauma of her religious upbringing left her fearful of love and perpetually single. Listen in as she discusses her journey to freedom and finding true love!

Luke and Kyle, your hosts, are both Sober and have been for some years, and while we try not to make this podcast too heavily about recovery (from drink and drugs), its always really nice to have a fellow sober person on the show to share their story. While we keep impartial about recovery and sobriety, one way or the other, we certainly did have a lot in common with our guest Michell Hiller, and want to think her for such an in depth and inspiring chat. If you missed it, go back, and have a listen!

Michelle Hillier was well into her Forties when she realized that she was running away. Not facing up to her fears and traumas, she was drinking heavily to numb and suppress unwanted feelings. She eventually hit a wall, hiding booze from friends and family and hitting rock bottom. She had an epiphany, and realized she last felt like her real self over twenty years ago, and so embarked on a journey to rediscover her authenticity. Our co-host Luke Colson has been on a similar path and we discuss the reasons why people self medicate, and how we can find the strength to get back to basics, face out fears, and start to feel alive again.

TRIGGER / CONTENT WARNING: Discussions of Suicide.
Another after thoughts section with Luke and Kyle, discussing the heartfelt and extraordinary previous episode. Rachel Dickenson lost her son to suicide, and the story around that day, and the following decade, is just amazing. 'No one ever recovers from losing a child', Rachel says. But she started to find ways to cope through travel and writing. Thank you Rachel for an inspiring story.

TRIGGER / CONTENT WARNING: Discussions of Suicide.
Rachel Dickenson was at home when she heard an unusual sound, something wasn't right, and she ran into her 17 year old son's room, to find him dead. In this powerful and raw story, Rachel talks about her journey from that tragic day. There were many stages to her grief, from keeping herself busy, for the first few weeks, to travel, to then literally staring at a television for two years. Rachel began to find acceptance and solace through writing, and as you will hear from this episode, she is at peace, and able to talk about her son, the memories, the grief, and the future. It's a heartwarming and wonderful episode.

In the previous Episode, Harriet Barnsley recounts the night her life changed forever, when she was hit by a car as she waited at a bus stop, at 101 mph. In this 'after thoughts' episode, your hosts Luke and Kyle discuss what an amazing privilege it was to have Harriet on the podcast. I don't think many of us can imagine having to go through such insane physical and mental hell, but we have a community here that understands struggle of all types. We are all bonded in our combined vision, to triumph over trauma! Thank you Harriet!

Every now and then an episode comes along, where we ask ourselves, how on earth is our guest here to tell the tale? Harriet Barnsley was waiting at a Bus Stop in Birmingham, England, with her friend, just like they did a thousand times before. Two speeding cars came racing around the corner, and lost control, hitting Harriet and her best friend from childhood, at 101mph. Tragically her friend was killed outright, and Harriet ended up 50 feet away in a park. It was 7.30pm, on just another Saturday evening. The accident left Harriet for dead. Now, 8 years on, she joins us to tell her amazing story.

Adam Sinkus lives in Fort Myers, Florida. People who love here know what they have signed up for, the 'cost of paradise' as Adam refers to it. Storms are common in this part of coastal Florida, and Hurricane's are always a threat too. In September 2022, a Category 4 Atlantic Hurricane, named Ian, would make landfall as the deadliest Hurricane to strike since 1935. Adam takes us through his experience in mesmerizing detail, as 150mph winds battered his home and the surrounding area. He lived to tell the tale, others we not so lucky. Hold tight, this one is wild.
