November 05, 2024Falconry Chronicles Episode 140: Ian Anderson
We're taking a short break from Texas and heading back briefly to Iowa! Earlier this July, I had a chance to meet up with Ian Anderson, and during that time, while kindly hosting me for a couple of days, we got a chance to sit down and talk about his experiences flying goshawks and some of the different lessons he's learned during his time in falconry. As an added bonus, we also got a chance to run our dachshunds while I was up there! Special thanks again to Ian for helping to coordinate the recordings with Lance Christensen, and a few others you haven't heard yet! If you'd like to follow Ian's falconry, head to Instagram and follow @iowa_gamehawker.

Release Date: 03-02-21
Are you looking for a conversation from a great hunter and impactful breeder of performance hounds? Are you trying to hone your skills and increase your knowledge about breeding hounds? This episode is for you!
Chris travels to southern Louisiana to hog hunt with good friend, legendary hunter and breeder Mike Cauley and his Bayou Cajun Plotts. This hunt was really a homecoming. Not for Chris, but for two plotts that were born in the Bayou Cajun Plott Kennel owned and operated for 39 years by Mike Cauley. Lotsagrit Bayou Cajun Bull and Diablo went home to run hogs with Mike and crew in their ancestral homeland. And the crew stacked them up.
From breeding plotts to hog and bear hunting to bare foot skiing on the Tchefuncte River, Mike has lived a life of Xtreme Performance. Mike represents the ideal Houndsman. He is soft spoken, humble, yet humorous, dedicated and an expert on breeding and catching dangerous game with his plotts. Chris and Mike have a great conversation about hunting but really drill down on breeding Xtreme Performance hounds. Recorded after two hard going days of hog hunting, Chris and Mike fight off sleep to bring you this impactful episode.

October 29, 2024Falconry Chronicles Episode 139: Don Roeber
While at the THA meet, I was able to connect with long time falconer Don Roeber for another great episode! Don took some time out of one of his meet days to talk about his many years of falconry experience flying hawks, falcons, and even talks about his experience flying a falcon he rehabilitated at one point. Don has also sponsored some well-known falconers during his time in the sport, and we cover that some as well during our conversation! Like many of these episodes with longtime falconers, there's some great stories here you won't want to miss!

October 24, 2024Butch Spear; the Level Headed Houndsman
In a world where people are working hard to be InstaCelebrities, Facebook Famous and host their own YouTube channel, Butch Spear is a bear hunting celebrity without even trying and probably against his will.
Butch found himself thrust onto the world stage by a YouTube channel producer with over 2 million followers. He was only trying to retrieve his bear dogs from a piece of private property. While he legally could have entered the property to get his hounds that were treed, he chose to go to the land owner out of courtesy and respect to inform him of what was happening. What happened next was beyond his wildest expectations. The YouTube channel owner got more than he bargained for as well. Butch Spear is the president of the Vermont Bearhound Association and was well equipped to handle the situation.
Listeners will find pearls of wisdom in how Butch Spear handled this situation.

October 22, 2024Falconry Chronicles Episode 138: Jay Lehmer
We're heading back to Texas again for a bit! This episode brings you all Jay Lehmer, who took the time out of his schedule at the THA meet earlier this year to talk about some of the adversity he's had to overcome in recent years with health issues, and some of the help he's received from fellow members of the falconry community to help face those issues. His story is another very touching one, and is another great example of what the falconry community can do when it comes together to help each other out. He also talks about his favorite form of falconry, flying longwings, and other topics. This is another one of those conversations you'll want to hear if you want to instantly have a better day folks, so come join us!
