Food, drinks and reading materials other than safety information cards have been banned on domestic flights in Thailand as the country tries to stop the coronavirus.
Thailand had also banned food and drink on flights between April 26 and August 31 last year. The new ban started on December 31.
Chula Sukmanop, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), told CNN that the ban is necessary because there isn't enough time to clean all of an airplane's reading materials after each flight. Passengers can bring their own reading materials, however.
Many airlines removed seat-back magazines from their planes as the coronavirus pandemic began, and many also reduced the food and drink offered to passengers. Between June and September last year, Singapore Airlines stopped serving food on many flights in Asia, with passengers just getting a snack bag as they got on the plane.
From November 20, Thailand opened to tourists from all countries, but visitors must have a negative COVID-19 test and quarantine for 14 days after they arrive.
