A growing number of US companies are starting to offer homes built with 3D printing technology.
The companies say that 3D printing is a faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly way to build homes than traditional methods. They say the technology may also help solve America's shortage of affordable housing.
But most companies in the industry are still developing their 3D printing technology, rather than building homes.
Texan company Icon made news in 2018 by completing the first permitted 3D printed home in the US. At the time, it said the home had only taken a day to build.
Icon has now completed 24 3D printed homes in the US and Mexico, including buildings for homeless people in Austin, Texas. And it plans to open a development of 3D printed homes this summer.
Icon co-founder Jason Ballard told The Associated Press that his company's 3D printing technology can reduce building costs by up to 30% and produce a home twice as fast as traditional methods. Unlike humans, the company's machines can work 24 hours a day.
