Do you enjoy bird-watching? Then this bird feeder may be for you!
A Slovenian company has raised over $5 million to create a bird feeder that tells owners when birds come to visit and takes photographs of the animals.
The company set up a Kickstarter page to help create the product, called Bird Buddy, and raised more than $60,000 for it in just 20 minutes.
The company says the feeder uses artificial intelligence to identify over 1,000 bird species — and it even uses a microphone to identify different bird songs.
The feeder's camera can be controlled from the user's smartphone. An app will create a photo album of the birds that visit and will also give ideas for food that will help bring different species to the feeder.
Bird Buddy also plans to help research by adding the information it collects to a database of bird populations around the world. A 2016 study by the American Museum of Natural History found that there are about 18,000 species of birds in the world — almost double the number there had been believed to be.
The feeder's camera can last up to 30 days on each charge, and there is also an option for it to collect solar power from the feeder's roof.
