The Blue Estate Group is planning to build the world's first floating city in the Caribbean.
Just a short trip away from Miami and the Bahamas, the Blue Estate will offer its residents more than 340 sunny days per year.
The man-made island will be 1,500 meters long and 1,000 meters wide, and will have space for more than 15,000 people to live. It will also have a school, a hospital, parks, markets, business and shopping areas, as well as two hotels for visitors.
Although it will float on the Caribbean Sea, the Blue Estate Group promises that the island will be very stable. It will be built with concrete, and have 50-meter-high walls to stop even the biggest ocean waves. Hurricane shutters will protect residents from strong winds, and the whole island can even be moved to a safer area if needed.
Construction on the island won't start until 2022, and is expected to be completed in 2025. However, properties are already on sale, with prices starting at $19,800 for 20-square-meter apartments, and going above $1.1 billion for one of two "mega mansions."
