Zach Bitter on Ultrarunning Training Principles, Running Faster, and Mental Tricks

If you want to learn ultrarunning training strategies from one of the most accomplished ultrarunners of our time, then this is the episode for you!


Today, we're chatting with Zach Bitter who is a professional ultrarunner for Altra and has held world records such as the fastest 100 mile time and most miles ran in 12 hours. He is also a four-time National Champion, and has won legendary ultras such as San Diego 100 and Javelina Jundred.


On top of that, Zach is also an endurance coach who helps ultrarunners achieve their biggest goals in running. And he has been my coach for almost two years. Since then, he's helped me go from average runner to top 10 male at one of the most competitve 100-milers in the US!


In this episode, Zach shares how you can increase your speed as an ultrarunner, mental tricks to help you perform your best on race day, and ultra training principles to help you nail your own goals.


This is actually a repurposed episode that was originally released in 2022, and the reason why we brought it back is because we'll be releasing a new series called The Training Log, where I'll be breaking down my own training every month.
