在英语里一般用on a bus表示在公交车上

为什么in a bus是错误的表达呢？

我们先学习一下on这个介词的用法吧

on：(覆盖、附着)在…上(意指接触物体表面或构成物体表面的一部分);由…支撑着;在(运输工具)上
on a bus/on the bus 在公交上
on a/the train 在火车上
on a/the ship 在大船上
on a/the plane 在飞机上
在英语里，当on的意思是在交通工具上时，on的适用范围是比较广阔的空间，适用于乘客有较大走动范围的交通工具。所以在飞机上、在火车上、在地铁上、在船上、在公共汽车上，一般都用on。
例：
There was only one seat free on the train.
火车上只剩下一个空座。
We waited till twelve and we finally got on the plane.
我们一直等到12点才终于上了飞机。

on the bus是在公交车上

但是要注意的是

在汽车上并不是on the car，而是in the car

为什么会有这种区别？in可以用在哪些交通工具上呢？

我们可以看到，in指的是进入某个空间里，一般是密闭狭窄、没什么走动范围的交通工具。在汽车上、在出租车上和在直升机上我们都用的是in。

He is making a long-distance call in a car.
他在车上打长途电话。
He is in a helicopter with his parents.
他和父母都在直升机上。
