有个美国朋友聊起了美国救护车的费用。

不聊不知道，一聊吓一跳，那价格贵得离谱！

看看美国救护车到底有多 “烧钱”。

And then I was asked, is it true that you have to pay for ambulances over there?

然后有人问我，在那边你真的必须为乘坐救护车付费吗？

Like if you have a heart attack or something like you have to pay to like be taken in the hospital in an ambulance.

就比如如果你心脏病发作或者类似的情况，你必须为乘坐救护车被送往医院付费。

And that was an eye opening conversation because I'm sitting here and it's the seventh year after the last time I was taken anywhere by ambulance.

那是一次令人大开眼界的对话，因为我现在坐在这里，距离我上次被救护车送往任何地方已经过去七年了。

And I never paid that bill because it was for 11 miles and it was $19,000 seven years ago, and I never paid that.

而且我从未支付过那笔账单，因为那趟路程是 11 英里，

七年前费用就高达 19000 美元，而我一直没付。

So I sort of had an internal celebration when it fell off my credit report,

which they don't have in China.

所以当那笔费用从我的信用报告中消失时，我心里还有点暗自庆幸，

而在中国是没有（这样因为费用未付影响信用报告）这种情况的。

“And then I was asked, is it true that you have to pay for ambulances over there?”

中 “is it true that...” 是一个常用句型，“that” 引导主语从句，

真正的主语是 “that you have to pay for ambulances over there”，“it” 作形式主语。

同时 “was asked” 是一般过去时的被动语态，结构为 “was/were + 过去分词”。

“Like if you have a heart attack or something like you have to pay to like be taken in the hospital in an ambulance.” 中 “if” 引导条件状语从句；“be taken” 是被动语态结构，表示 “被送往”。

“it's the seventh year after the last time...” 结构中 “after the last time” 引导时间状语，“I was taken anywhere by ambulance” 是定语从句，修饰先行词 “the last time”，省略了关系词 “that”。
