He says there is an “explosion of knowledge” that comes with new treatments and his “goal is to advance the quality of cancer care in his area. Having received over a dozen grants, and participated in just as many clinical trials, he currently has a pending grant for 5-year study on the "Role of Gut Microbiota in Modulating Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy for Cancer." Frankel has stated that immunotherapy is the most important advance in the past decade against cancer. He understands and is passionate about the connection between the immune system and the constantly evolving nature of cancer and tumors.
