In this episode of the Travel Runners Podcast, host Liz Myers sits down with Alex Baker to share a powerful story of grief, purpose, and transformation through running.
After losing his wife to cancer, Alex made a life-changing decision to prioritize his health and become a strong to be a positive example for his son. What began as walking for fitness soon turned into an ambitious challenge of covering more than 500 miles in just 102 days. Which eventually led him to the marathon starting line.
Alex opens up about the emotional and physical challenges of his journey, running his first half marathon in memory of his wife, and the moment he realized running could be more than personal healing. It could be a force for good. Since then, he has completed several major marathons, raising over $43,000 for cancer-related charities, and launched the nonprofit Ketchup Up to Cancer to support other charity runners in making an impact.
This episode is a moving reminder of how running can help us process loss, reconnect with purpose, and turn pain into action. Whether you’re a runner, a charity supporter, or someone navigating grief, Alex’s story is one of resilience, love, and the power of forward motion.
