I had no idea that a lot the anxiety and stress I was experiencing were due to my own codependency. As I started to recognize each piece of the puzzle, I began searching for ways to change. In the next 10 episodes, I'm going to walk you through each of the toxic behaviors that I identified in myself and how I am working to change them. I've also found that it's important to start observing how often these behaviors show up in the people you spend time with. 

In today's episode I'm talking about giving unsolicited ADVICE and RESCUING people from situations or emotions when it is not your responsibility. This was one of the first things I noticed myself doing, and also the first thing I notice myself slipping back into when I'm not paying attention. It removes SO MUCH stress and anxiety when we realize that rescuing and giving advice is not our responsibility and when we stop doing those things. I have to remind myself that it's actually hurtful to the other person when we do not allow them to experience their own consequences and emotions.
