In PA school we learned the first treatment to almost every disease is lifestyle modifications. But why do we wait until a patient receives a diagnosis instead of being proactive about starting lifestyle modifications earlier? How do we actually help patients follow through with making effective lifestyle modifications? What do we do if we know we need to make changes in our own lifestyles?
My guest today is here to answer these questions and more! Dr. Jennifer Harrington is a PA with 25 years of experience and has held pivotal roles in professional leadership, advocacy, and PA education. She worked in rural medicine for many years and is now a PA program director, following her passion for education. She also runs her own non-profit, Called to Serve, organizing medical missions trips.
Dr. Harrington shares how she was able to prevent burnout by creating routines and habits that focus on nutrition and quality self care. In order to effectively carry out her several roles and responsibilities, Dr. Harrington discusses how she learned the importance of taking care of herself so that she can better take care of others.
