Here’s what Jimmy and Adam talked about in Episode 57:
Diabetes Takes Biggest Bite Out of U.S. Health Care Spending
The top 10 most costly health expenses in 2013, according to the analysis, were:
- What is the metabolic pathway for dietary fat and dietary carbohydrate once consumed?
Hey Jimmy and Adam,
How are fat and carbohydrates metabolized differently in the body once ingested? I want to hear Dr. Nally get all geeky in his answer on this one. What are the exact paths they follow, what enzymes are activated, what hormones are elevated, and anything else that happens when you consume these? By the way, Jimmy, I met you in Melbourne last year and you are actually an awesome bloke in person.

1. How does a ketogenic diet heal your digestive system? Would the bacteria from fermented foods help with this?
Hey guys,
In a previous episode from last year, The Doc mentioned that eating keto can help your digestive track heal. I have two questions about this:
1. How exactly does a ketogenic diet help to heal your digestive system? Is it by lowering inflammation?
2. It occurred to me that our not-so-ancient ancestors must have not wasted food even if it was going bad. Would getting adequate bacteria from fermented foods help a person improve their gut health and digestion as well?
Thanks for your podcast,
Laura

2. Can a ketogenic diet be the answer to lowering the inflammation from ulcerative colitis and gout?
Hey Jimmy and Doc Nally,
I just recently discovered the wonderful world of podcasts and you guys are at the top of my list of favorites. I feel like a kid who just learned how to see when they get their first pair of glasses and the world begins to be crystal clear. Thanks for all you do to help navigate the very confusing world of nutrition and healthy living. I have a question that I believe is directly related to inflammation. After going gluten-free about four years ago, I’m now striving to be ketogenic to control my ulcerative colitis. Since this is an inflammatory disease, it seems keto would help with this. Am I right? As for my husband, he has gout and all the dietary suggestions from the medical world seem to be aggravating this issue for him. Would ketosis help him with this too since we don’t want to take medications?
Help!

KEY QUOTE: “We need to never lose that wide-eyed wonder we get from realizing that this is truly a miracle.” – Jimmy Moore3. Should I be concerned with my blood sugar levels going too low while eating a ketogenic diet?
Hi Jimmy and The Doc!
I have been following an LCHF lifestyle for a few years and switched over to keto in October 2016. I've lost 6.5 kg (14 pounds) since then and have a little more to go to reach my goal weight. I weigh in once a week and test my fasting blood glucose and ketones on the same day to keep an eye on how I'm doing. My ketones fluctuate between 0.9-2.9 mmol. My blood glucose averages 3.8 mmol (68 mg/dL), but I've seen it as low as 2.8 mmol (50 mg/dL). Shouldn’t I be above 4 mmol (72 mg/dL) to be healthy? I’m almost never above 4 mmol! Should I be concerned? I have no symptoms of hypoglycemia but I’m not sure what to think about this.
Any guidance you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I love listening to Keto Talk. Thanks in advance for your answer.

- Why am I so hungry at night while eating keto and what can I do to avoid this?
I have been listening to numerous podcasts to develop my knowledge base on the keto way of eating and yours is awesome. Thank you for providing us Ketonians with such a great resource! I am SUPER new to keto and have been borderline diabetic for several years. I have been eating this way for about a month with my daily caloric intake around 1300. I am striving to eat a fat/protein/carb intake of 80/15/5 and I track this voraciously online.
The past two weeks have been SO hard for me and I have given in to eating more than two or three portions of pork rinds twice. I have tried a variety of things to overcome this hunger by drinking more water, eating fat bombs, consuming celery and cheese, and going to bed earlier—all without success. I am pretty discouraged right now.
I am certain I have overlooked something important in succeeding with my weight loss journey and I am rather surprised by this because I felt fine the first two weeks with no hunger and lots of energy. What adjustments can I make to avoid evening hunger?
Thank you for all you do to provide great information through your podcasts! I’ll be listening!
