In this edition of The Way Out I’m overjoyed to bring you my interview with person in long term recovery and founder of the creative coaching agency Liberty Empowerment and the new community Speak Toast, Keelin Conant. In accordance with the Truth in Podcasting Act of 2023, which I 100% just made up and is absolutely not a real thing, this is the last of a handful of interviews I inadvertently recorded with my super sub-par webcam microphone, so a big thank you to all ya’ll Way Out faithful for bearing with the less than stellar audio from yours truly. Despite my audio adversity, the spiritual and recovery truth that emerges as Keelin shares her journey to and through recovery is truly extraordinary. Without question one of the key truths embodied in Keelin’s story amounts to a profound and fundamental question we all must address or answer in one way or another in our Recovery Journeys: what are we willing to give up to become the person we feel called to be? This question goes back to the Hero’s Journey we’ve often referenced on this podcast, which is the journey we all embark upon when we enter recovery. We reckon with our limitations, which for us is largely our addictions and counter productive thought and behavior patterns and we embark on a journey which principally consists of becoming increasingly willing to systematically shed our addictions and counterproductive thought and behavior patterns in order to become increasingly closer to the people we ultimately feel called to be. To the extent that we’re able to do that, is the extent we can increasingly live in the sunlight and embody the love and connectedness that creates a meaningful and enduring Recovery. Regardless of the pathway we take, whether that be 12-Step Recovery, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, Faith based Recovery, a combination of these or an all together different path the truths embodied in the conversation that’s about to unfold before your very ears are truly universal. The word conversation is an adjective which frankly fundamentally fails to accurately describe what transpired between Keelin and I, it was in fact a spiritually liberating exchange of the highest order so do make sure you listen up.
