Andrew L 'Esperance is a professional mountain bike and gravel racer who is entering his third season in the Lifetime Grand Prix (LTGP). Prior to the Grand Prix, he made a living as a World Cup MTB racer around the world. But he is perhaps equally famous for being the partner of Haley Smith, winner of the 2022 LTGP. Haley has been one of the most outspoken athletes in the bike world with regards to mental health. I wanted to chat with Andrew about his development as an athlete but also, I wanted to hear what it is like to be the #1 support person in a relationship where mental health is a regular discussion.
