You know how sometimes you KNOW that a certain choice is going to cause you a negative consequence, but you make it anyway?

Maybe you go ahead and have that second helping even though you're not really hungry, or maybe you give up your attempt to cut back on your caffeine consumption.

Whatever your poison, you use it willingly - it's become an unfortunate habit.

End a Toxic Legacy: How and Why You Have to Stop Trying to Be Perfect (Narcissistic Abuse Recovery)

It doesn't get any better than perfect, right? If a project or task is done perfectly then it's the most we could hope for. Perfection is what we all should strive for whether we're working for ourselves or someone else. Employers always seek employees who make every effort to get it perfect. Is this how you think?

These are a few of the thoughts most people have about people who are perfectionists and perfectionism in general. Well, in theory this is good; but in reality perfectionism has a few drawbacks. The dictionary says perfection is an unsurpassable degree of accuracy or excellence. It's the act or process of perfecting something to a level for which most of us refuse to attain.

Perfectionism has been defined as when someone strives toward goals that are usually impossibly high but won't settle for anything less. If it's less than perfect they view it as unacceptable.

Where do you think this kind of thinking comes from? It comes from a toxic legacy of generations of dysfunctional family members - and that's what this week's episode of Self-Love Sunday is all about!

Sneaky Hidden Abuse: Deflection, Projection and the Narcissistic Flip (Narcissistic Abuse Recovery)

One of the most effective kinds of gaslighting is when a narcissist sort of "flips the script" on you during an argument.

I have dubbed this practice the "narcissistic flip," and have found that it's a regularly employed manipulation technique for many narcs.

The "flip" happens most often when you make a valid point or have the nerve to question the narc about anything.

That's about the time everything turns around and suddenly, you're the one who's sorry (mostly that you bothered engaging in yet another pointless argument).

People Just Don't Get Narcissistic Abuse Unless They've Been There...

If you've ever been in a relationship with a toxic narcissist, you have some idea of how it feels to not want to share your pain with other people, am I right?

Because of the shame, fear, guilt and/or embarrassment of being tortured by a narcissist, a lot of victims won't even talk about it with the people they're closest to in their lives - and even when they appear to be totally fine and are capable of a friendly conversation (and have good social skills), there can be an underlying feeling of isolation for a survivor - one that feels sort of like a dull ache.

So often, I hear this from my clients - they feel like they don't even know how to be vulnerable anymore - and they find themselves feeling very gunshy, constantly on alert.

See, emotional abuse (not to mention physical and even deeper forms psychological abuse such as gaslighting) can really teach us to shut up - to stop talking about ourselves - and this leads to our becoming paralyzed in certain ways - one of which is developing the need to be alone!

In this video, I'll answer some questions for you, including:

WHY do survivors of narcissistic abuse have so much trouble feeling really connected to people? Why do we so often find the need to be alone after any sort of social interaction? Why do we find the idea of certain kinds of interaction overwhelming to the point that we just become paralyzed and hide inside the little cocoons we've created for ourselves?

Responding to Your Comments on Demons and Narcissists: How You Changed My Mind!

Do you believe that narcissists are demons, or not? And if you believe they're demons, do you believe that YOUR narcissist is literally a demon from hell?

I'm Responding to Your Comments on Demons and Narcissists

Highlighting Comments From Fireflower Dancer:

1) There's a difference between the idea that narcissists are actual demons and the claim that they are influenced by, or on some level possessed by, them.

2) From what I've seen of other people's personal experiences in their own Youtube blogs, and the hundreds of comments I've read, many people contemplate the idea not because they themselves are religious or because they feel shame over what their ex or their parent did, but because the person's behavior seems to defy any other explanation, including what we know of human psychology.

3) Faith healers are often capitalizing on a real problem. Just because they may be posers who are in it for the profit, does not mean there is not simultaneously an actual spiritual component to the problem.

4) There is an intersection between supernatural occorrences and science. It's not necessarily religious beliefs that compel people to contemplate the idea of spiritual influence, but the fact that some things are simply beyond what we can interpret in this world in a concrete way.

5) If demons do exist and if in fact at times humans are influenced by them, this in no way means we should stop pursuing proper medical treatment to the best of our ability. The two problems, chemical imbalance/psychological disturbance and spiritual influence can exist simultaneously. One is simply more concrete and easier for humans to understand than the other.

CONCLUSION

The behavior of narcissists and other cluster Bs goes beyond a medical problem or mental illness- it goes to the core of who they are as a person, and at times, the powers/energy sources they choose to ally themselves with. Mental illness is not a moral problem, but malignant narcissism IS. They choose to do the things they do on a daily basis. If you don't believe in good and evil than it makes sense that you wouldn't believe in good or evil entities beyond what humans can fully perceive. But people have believed in worlds and entities that are outside our full understanding since the beginning of humanity.

Are you being gaslighted? Top 10 Signs of Gaslighting in a Toxic Relationship with a Narcissist

In addition to verbal abuse and control, narcissists have a whole other agenda - one that's dark and especially pervasive - and it's a lot like brainwashing in a way.

In this video, I'm going to offer a quick overview of the top 10 signs you're being gaslighted by a narcissists in a toxic relationship.

The basic definition of gaslighting is to "manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity" - and it goes DEEP!

Narcissists have this thing where they make you feel crazy because they act like your reactions to their abuse is not rational.

While the signs you're being gaslighted may seem "obvious" to some people, the fact is that when you're being manipulated by a narcissist, you can't always see the proverbial forest for the trees.

So if you find yourself feeling like you might be a little crazy (part of the whole gaslighting technique)-or even if you're aware that it's happening and want to recognize it as it happens-understanding the signs can be the first step to making your life a little better.
