In life there are very few things that will outrival the privilege that leading and guiding others affords us. This isn’t solely true in our professional lives, it’s most important in our private lives. As a parent I am afforded an amazing privilege to guide my children through life and as any parent would know it’s a task that constantly leaves us feeling less than. We feel like we’re not achieving or not doing enough. In life this can lead us down a slippery path where we tend to do everything for our kids. We constantly seek to make them happy because their happiness is equated to our success. The problem here is we create a situation where our children don’t have resilience and they have no tools in their tool box when it comes to needing to dig deep and problem solve. We might make ourselves feel better but ultimately we’re setting our children up for failure later in life and that’s very unfair. So something needs to change and that something is US.
