We Should Talk About That

Being Undiplomatic with Deesha Dyer

Not following the expected path isn't necessarily a recipe for success in a city like Washington, D.C.,  but that is exactly what my guest this week, Deesha Dyer, did.  At the age of 31, working full time and in community college part time, she took a chance on herself and applied for a White House internship in the Obama administration.  And thank goodness she did, because she quickly found herself zipping up the ranks until she became the White House social secretary, where she worked until 2017.
There's a lot we should talk about with Deesha.  From imposter syndrome to embracing who you are even if it makes other people uncomfortable, we cover a wide range of topics. And I'm all the better for it!

About my guest:
Deesha Dyer is an award-winning strategist, on-the-ground community organizer, and executive operations expert. She served as the White House social secretary during the Obama administration and is currently the founder and CEO of social impact agency, Hook & Fasten. She curated and instructed a study course called Imposter to Impact at the Harvard Kennedy School. Deesha’s entertaining and engaging style of storytelling allows her to inspire audiences around the world. She co-founded and operates organization, beGirl.world Global Scholars, which tackles the racial disparity in study abroad.  Her book, Undiplomatic: How My Attitude Created the Best Kind of Trouble, can be found here
