  5. Number 5: BONUS EPISODE: Organic Label Loopholes with Dr. Linley Dixon

Dr. Sina McCullough and Dr. Linley Dixon discuss the current loopholes in the organic label, including: 1. An animal is still considered "pasture-raised" even if that animal never steps onto grass or pasture. The animal can be raised on a concrete slab and still be labeled as "organic." 2. Hydroponics are allowed to be certified as "organic" even though the plant never touches soil and the major hydroponic growers are feeding the plants GMO soy. Find out what Dr. Dixon and The Real Organic Project are doing to defend the integrity of the organic label and what you can do to help! About Dr. Linley Dixon: Dr. Dixon is the Associate Director of the Real Organic Project. She holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Florida. In addition, she held a 2-year post-doctorate with the USDA’s Systematic Botany and Mycology Laboratory where she studied fungal plant pathogens from around the world. Dr. Dixon also owns a vegetable farm in Colorado, where she markets her produce through a CSA, farm to school, and at farmers markets.
