QUOTES:

“The one thing I would ask people to walk away with some compassion and understanding for the fact that nobody chooses to have binge eating disorder, nobody chooses to carry excess weight.” Dr. Lisa Oldson

“Binge eating disorder is definitely the most common of the eating disorders and my opinion about why it is so underrecognized and underdiagnosed is because of the shame and the blame that people have.” Dr. Lisa Oldson

GUEST BIO:

As an Obesity Medicine physician coming from a Primary Care background, she understands the impact of excess weight on health as well as on self-esteem, employment, relationships, mood and productivity. Every day we make a myriad of decisions about food, movement and lifestyle that impact our weight. She acts both as a docent and a coach, educating and guiding individuals as they navigate these decisions, for themselves and for those in their community.

She’s board certified in Internal Medicine since 1997 and Obesity Medicine since 2013. As the founder of Oldson Medical and Smart Weight Loss Coaching she has an opportunity to impact people’s weight and health every day. As she says, with this role comes a responsibility to refute the shame and stigma so often attached to excess weight. An elevated BMI is not a moral failing, it’s a medical condition. Nobody chooses to struggle with their weight. Her work is all about helping people off that struggle bus!
