Of course we feel that way. It simply takes a quick Google search to get back 10000+ results of articles touting ways to “increase your willpower with food”.
You've likely be told that once you've found a diet that makes you feel good physically and mentally, it is just a matter of staying on track. This takes willpower.
This is where we have it all wrong.
Now, in our defense, we live in a culture that idolizes “self-control” and makes us believe that we’re expected to:
The list goes on.
It’s no wonder we feel a deep sense of shame and guilt when we feel we aren’t adhering to the unrealistic expectations placed upon us.
With all of that messaging, this might just come as a surprise to you: willpower is a lie.
Binge eating is not about willpower.
