Have you ever tried to make a big change in your life only to wind up right back in your old patterns a few weeks later?
Maybe it was a diet change, or trying to remove a toxic person, or cutting out certain unhealthy behaviors (like compulsions).
And have you ever wondered why making REAL lasting change is so tough?
Well this week, I am excited to announce that we are creating a new series on how to create real lasting change in your life. In this first episode, I will be discussing the different levels of change that we can implement in our lives. I am also going to discuss one of the lowest levels of change, which focuses on environmental change and how this is the most commonly pursued but often the least effective.
The work we are going to do in this series will definitely unlock some of the missing pieces that have been keeping you stuck.
Matt

Hello
This week we are wrapping up our series on anxiety and the workplace. And for the final episode I wanted to discuss the topic panic attacks because it is a question I get frequently. Panic attacks are the highest level of anxiety a person can experience. On a scale of discomfort ranging from 1-10, panic attacks are a very clear 10! And for people who struggle with panic attacks one of the scariest things about them is they can happen at any time, often for no apparent reason. You could be watching a movie, out grabbing a bite to eat, or even sitting at your desk and bam it strikes without warning.
When panic symptoms arise it's very natural to resist them and avoid whatever situation might be triggering the response. But as you will see in the episode, when we resist panic symptoms and avoid things that trigger us it often makes things much worse. As the old sayin’ goes, “what we resist, persist.” So in this episode, I want to discuss what to do when a panic attack surfaces at work so you feel equipped to handle it, if and when it arises.
Have a great week,
Matt

Losing a job, however it happens, can be an incredibly stressful experience, I know from experience. One day you have a steady stream of income to support your family, and then in an instant, your world gets turned upside down. And while it can be a difficult transition to navigate, I have seen so many people experience this painful loss thousand of times, but never actually lose their job in real life. Their anxious mind has them worrying about every possible scenario you can imagine. And man oh man, can that part of your mind can have a field day with this topic, especially if left unchecked...
“What if my boss fires me because I didn’t close that deal?”....
“Then what if I can't pay my bills?”...
“Then what if I end up going homeless?”...
“Then what if I have to move across the world to find another job”...
My goodness, I am stressed just writing this. So in this episode, I will be discussing some tools to help you overcome this specific form of anxiety so you can let go a little bit and live a more well-balanced life.
Have a great week
Matt

In this episode, I am going to talk about stress and anxiety in the workplace. In order to overcome stress and anxiety in the workplace, it is SO important to accurately identify the specific stressor within work, as opposed to assuming that work itself is the problem. Sometimes simple shifts make huge differences in a person’s psychological and emotional well being. So in this episode, I will be discussing THREE areas to consider if you are feeling a lot of stress and anxiety related to your work.
Number 1 - Your Work Environment or Team
Number 2 - Your Individual Responsibilities
Number 3 - Your Personal Growth
Exploring these three areas will help you develop better self-awareness of your current situation, and ultimately take better corrective actions in your life. So if you are struggling with stress and anxiety related to work this episode will be a great starting point to begin taking back some control. Enjoy!

In this episode, I discuss Anxiety and Unemployment. The economic impact of COVID-19 has resulted in a large number of people losing their jobs. Now life during a global pandemic is stressful enough, but when you add more layers of problems (like financial uncertainty) into the mix, it’s no wonder we are seeing a dramatic spike in mental health issues across the board. Now I speak from experience when I say that losing a job can seem like the end of the world, especially when it happens unexpectedly.
But it is critical to maintain perspective and realize that this moment is simply the end of that chapter of your life and is by no means the end of your story. So in this episode, I will be sharing my experiences with job loss and bouncing back from it. I’ll also share some additional tips to help you through this transitional stage. Finally, if you are currently in this transitional period yourself, always remember that better opportunities are available and will cross your path, it is your job to be positive, persistent, and to maintain hope until they do.

I have always believed that true healing and restoration comes from within. And I also believe that if we want change in the world, it starts within each one of us. When you focus on healing yourself you are focusing on something in your control. And this enables you to take action on improving yourself, which will ultimately have a ripple effect of healing in others. I truly believe that’s why Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change you wish to see in the world.” I think he knew that chance begins with the individual. Because when you are a pillar of strength amidst chaos, other people are forced to look at you and respond.
So in this episode, I discuss some important steps we can each individually take to help heal and restore a world lost in chaos. I would like to encourage you not to let this storm knock you off course. Continue to keep growing from within so that ultimately your strength is so magnetic and so vibrant that other people are naturally drawn to you when they are lost and you can help them and hopefully the ripple effect will continue to a point where we heal and grow as an entire world.

In this episode, I discuss the importance of authenticity and how it plays a large role in our recovery. From a very early age our emotional needs revolve around two things - the ability to attach to our caregivers and the ability to be authentic. However, if we learn that being authentic threatens our attachment we will almost always choose attachment over authenticity. This can lead to us suppressing different aspects of ourselves, which in turn can manifest into a variety of physical, mental, and emotional problems. In this episode, I discuss how being authentic can help set us free from our inner struggles and live a more fulfilling life. Enjoy!

In this episode, I discuss the importance of honesty and why it is crucial for true recovery. Right now, we are living in a very clear imbalance of integrity on many different levels. On a societal level, we are presented with misinformation and even disinformation from news outlets and politicians on both sides of the spectrum. And on an individual level, many of us struggle with keeping simple promises to ourselves, not to mention our friends and family. It’s no wonder many of us are experiencing such an extreme level of internal discord during this pandemic. Which is exactly why I wanted to start a new series on telling the truth. The truth is important because it enables us to see the world how it really is, which in turn allows us to focus and solve the real problems we are facing. In this episode, I introduce some initial ideas on why developing and maintaining a high regard for honesty on every level will help with our recovery.

In this episode, I discuss several major mental health issues that are growing during this global pandemic. According to initial research, there is an alarming increase in the number of domestic violence, suicide, drug overdose, and child abuse cases during this pandemic. Now, I know it’s easy to quickly put the blame on macro forces beyond our control such as COVID-19 and the mandatory quarantine. And I agree that there is no doubt these forces play a large role in this increase, but I also want us to explore these issues from a micro perspective as well.
So in this episode, I talk about how many of us use distractions to manage our mental and emotional struggles, and how many of our distractions have been taken from us seemingly overnight. As a result, a lot of stuff of mental and emotional issues are surfacing for people and it can be difficult to deal with. So I want to share some tips on simple things you can start doing to maintain balance and manage yourself well during this crazy time.

In this episode, I talk about taking leaps of faith. Taking a leap of faith essentially means to act on something without being certain of the outcome. For example, when you ask someone on a date, you can’t be certain if they are going to say “Yes” until after you ask. Taking action is actually what produces a certain outcome. When it comes to anxiety recovery most of us strive to be certain before we take action. The problem is there is no way to be certain without taking action so we remain stuck. It’s a complete paradox! Taking leaps of faith is your path to achieve a life that is not controlled by fear and anxiety.
