  • Ep. 60: Stop Trying Harder, Try DIFFERENT!

    Welcome to 2021!!!

I’d like to start off by wishing you a very happy new year! There’s no doubt that this holiday season was a bit different than most of us are used to. But I hope you still got to be with your friends & family and connect in your own way.

One of the things I love about January is it gives us the ability to reset and take a moment to re-evaluate what is important in our lives. And instead of adding more to your already full plate (like most of us do), I want to encourage you to consider adopting a different approach this year, especially when it comes to stress and anxiety.

And this approach is to simply ….Stop Trying Harder, Try DIFFERENT!

The reality is your success on this journey to recovery is not directly correlated to the amount of effort you put it. Your success depends on approaching your recovery with the correct tools and strategies so you can expect RESULTS by taking steps each day that will move you closer to your goals.

So in this episode, I will be sharing some tips on how you can transition to trying a different approach and start working smarter, not harder!

    Enjoy!

OCD is composed of two primary components, obsessions and compulsions. And while the treatment process is virtually the same, regardless of the subtype, the experience of living with OCD is very different for every individual.

So in this episode, I will be discussing the most common subtypes of OCD, which will help you be more aware of some of the different ways OCD can manifest in a person's life.

  • Ep. 58: When A Loved One Refuses Help & Treatment

One of the most difficult situations I encounter is when a family member is trying to help someone who doesn’t want help (or doesn’t think they need help). And while there might be great intentions behind trying to force a loved one to get help, it generally drives both parties nuts.

And the longer this conflict goes on, a larger and larger strain grows on the relationship and in the homelife. Which is why in this final part of our series I wanted to discuss some things you can do (and should consider) when someone you know is refusing to get help.

  • Ep. 57: How to help a Family Member with OCD & Anxiety

What can I do to help a family member who is struggling with OCD & Anxiety?

This is a question I am faced with at least a dozen times per week. Often from a person who is in a great deal of pain because someone they care about deeply is struggling with their mental health.

Friends, it is so important to remember that your family and loved ones are often your greater resource on your journey to recovery. And in so many cases these resources are overlooked and often underutilized simply because they don’t know how to help you. And how could they? They have never been taught.

That is why in today’s episode, we are going to focus on friends and family members of people who struggle with OCD & Anxiety and introduce some specific strategies they can use to support people they care about.

And if you are the person who is struggling, please send this to someone close to you so they know how to better support you. Remember, with the RIGHT TOOLS and PROPER SUPPORT, you can break out of the loop and start taking back control of their life.

  • Ep. 56: The Power of Gratitude (Happy Thanksgiving!)

Gratitude is a simple, but powerful tool for our mental health. Gratitude begins with our thoughts, but on a much deeper level, it’s about cultivating a genuine feeling of appreciation for the positive things currently in your life. By generating a genuine feeling of appreciation and abundance it will raise your internal state which will ultimately drive more positive behaviors and interactions in your life.

The reality is, we ALL have so many things to be grateful for and it is so easy to lose sight of them. In fact, most of us are simply just trying to keep our head above water in our busy day-to-day lives that we don’t even have the time to think about this stuff, let alone enjoy it.

In order to interrupt this cycle, we have to start with a conscious decision to hit pause. And I can’t think of a more perfect time to do this than the week of Thanksgiving.

So this week, I just wanted to share some of the things that I’m grateful for in my life and encourage you to do the same so you can enjoy the power of gratitude in your life.

I hope you enjoy this special episode and I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

    Matt

  • Ep. 55: 8 Warning Signs That Someone May Have OCD & Anxiety

This week I am starting a new series specifically for the family and loved ones of people who struggle with OCD & Anxiety. When I look back on my own journey to recovery, I think one of the most frustrating parts is feeling isolated and distant from those closest to me because none of us knew what was going on, let alone how to solve it.

So my goal in this series is to help the family members and loved ones of people who are struggling better understand OCD & Anxiety so they can offer the proper support and guidance.

But in order to provide the proper support, we all must be able to correctly identify the problem. So in this episode, I discuss eight common warning signs that could indicate someone in your life might be struggling with OCD & Anxiety.

  • Ep. 54: How to Maintain Internal Peace

In today’s episode, I discuss the importance of maintaining internal peace, specifically regarding the recent presidential election in the United States. No matter what political views you have, whether your candidate won or lost, you have the CHOICE to be at peace internally, or NOT.

The deeper I go on this journey of self-healing, the more I truly believe that internal peace has very little to do with external circumstances. And if you don’t invest in learning how to manage yourself emotionally and prioritize your internal peace - you will continue to find yourself lost in chaos.

So in this episode, I am going to share some of the steps that I personally take to maintain my own internal peace, regardless of my external circumstances. Because I realize that my internal state drives my decisions and my behavior, which creates a ripple effect into my family, my friendships, my career and so on. So to create the life that I truly want I have to start by fully managing myself.

  • Ep. 51: Tips for Dating With OCD

    Hello,

Today we are starting a new series on Dating & OCD.

In this episode, I discuss some high-level tips for dating and having a successful romantic relationship while living with OCD & Anxiety.

It’s important to remember that if you struggle with OCD & Anxiety you don’t have to let it limit your life. Especially, when it comes to experiencing many of life’s amazing gifts like love and family.

Sure, it might take a little more work in certain areas from both partners, but people with OCD & Anxiety can absolutely enjoy healthy and successful relationships.

In this episode, I am going to discuss dating from both the perspective of having OCD and the perspective of having a partner who has OCD.

My hope is that this will help couples begin to navigate some of the common issues they may be facing if OCD is a third wheel in their relationship.

    Have a great week,

    Matt
