Have you ever felt alone in a crowd or disconnected in your neighborhood, where houses stand close but people seem worlds apart? This episode peels back the layers of modern society's paradox of personal isolation in a world of hyper connectivity. Over a simple morning coffee, Joey came across an awkward social situation with some other parents when their kids interacted; despite the closeness of our homes, our money and privilege seems to be distancing us from each other.
As we navigate the concrete jungles of our daily lives, do we really see the people around us? This episode uncovers the role of basic human interaction in creating not only a safer society but one that thrives emotionally.
Finally, we confront the elephant in the room – social media. With its glossy veneer depicting life as a highlight reel, it's easy to get lost in the facade and forget the authenticity of messy, real-life connections. Through personal anecdotes, Joey & JT illustrate how social platforms often skew our reality, and why finding solace in genuine communal activities, like the sidelines of a children's soccer game, can offer us a lifeline.
Episode 333: Do you get your car serviced regularly? Do you get a yearly check up at the Doctor? Funnily enough we BJJ Folks never do this when it comes to our physical function for rolling. Many of us do not want to know just how bad our injuries and accumulated damage is so we just ignore it until it's so bad we can't function. But what if it didn't have to come to this? JT & Joey are working a check up, a physical assessment that can let you know where you are at and then what to do about it.
You may not be aware but for every year of BJJ you do there is a slow accumulation of wear and tear but this can be countered with a good routine of maintenance. When was the last time you had a physical check up? This is your call to action to take better care of yourself so you can enjoy training Jiu-jitsu for the long term.

Do you play tennis, squash maybe even pickle ball? There are many great and fun hobbies but that does not mean it translates to better BJJ. "But I heard it's good for hand eye coordination?" It doesn't help when someone is sitting on your chest crushing you into submission. Now if you have played Rugby or American Football and have spent years tackling people to the ground and holding them there- this is a translatable skill that will definitely help your take down game. JT goes on a tear with this one folks, whatever you do don't mention pickleball!
Episode 332: Have you got Injury One-itis? Got that first big BJJ injury that you are struggling to deal with. When major injury strikes, it can really take over your life- but what can we do to get over this? A major part of getting through the process of rehabbing an Injury is not Catastrophising the situation: making it seem worse then it actually is. JT & Joey examine where you need to start, you must find out the nature of your injury and exactly how bad is it? Next step is having a rehab plan to get you back on the mats. This is a great opportunity to learn some new coping methods and develop some systems to deal with injury so the next time it does occur its a much easier process and you bounce back faster!
