Aperformance art piece presented by YoannBourgeois, a French choreographer, went viral recently. The video shows him trying to climb a staircase but thenfalling down. Instead of falling on the ground, Bourgeois lands on a trampoline and then bouncesback onto the staircase, only to fall backagain. Bourgeois repeats the same action of falling and bouncing back multipletimes before he finally lands on the top of the staircase.

According to The Indian Express, a video of this performance wasfirst posted on TikTok by photographer Mathieu Stern who saw it live. Stern’svideo has since been reposted across many social mediaplatforms. On Twitter, a video of this performance art gathered over 25.7million views since it was posted on Oct 24.

Bourgeois’s fluid and effortless movementsshown in the video have impressed people, who took to social media to theorizeabout the message of his performance. A popular theory about the performance isthat it indicates that the path to success is not straightforward and includesseveral ups and downs. Many people also argued that Bourgeois’s act of gettingup after each fall shows that one should not give up on their goal despitesetbacks.

“If you want to get thatliteral to his point, he technically is not returning to the same step eachtime he falls. Inmost cases, hereturns further back. The point is that you have to get back on the path tosuccess rather than just staying down on thetrampoline.” A viewer commented.

    “

Two panda experts from the Chinese mainland arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday after Taipei Zoo’s Tuan Tuan was suspected to have a malignant brain tumor. The experts visited the panda twice on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, finding that the health condition of Tuan Tuan is better than expected, island media Chinatimes.com reported on Wednesday, citing the Taipei Zoo.

The 18-year-old male panda, named Tuan Tuan, is one of two giant pandas gifted by the mainland to Taiwan in 2008. Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan gave birth to "Yuan Zai" and "Yuan Bao", who are beloved by many of Taiwan’s residents.

After symptoms of epilepsy were observed in August, Tuan Tuan was tested twice with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in September and October respectively. The test showed that the infected area was enlarged and the disease had rapidly worsened. Although the condition of Tuan Tuan has not been confirmed, it is highly likely that he has a malignant brain tumor.

The health condition of Tuan Tuan aroused concerns on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The Taipei Zoo said it has exchanged detailed information with the experts and has reached an agreement concerning the treatment. The experts have checked on the panda and will give feedback on whether or not it is the animal's brain that is causing weakness in its hind limbs, according to the report.

There is no updated treatment plan yet, and the two experts will communicate with other mainland experts over the next few days. It is hoped that they can form opinions based on the observation of the panda's behavior, but it will take three to four days, according to a report from the Taipei Zoo.

Taiwan's Council of Agriculture once said that Tuan Tuan could be sent back to the Chinese mainland, causing criticism from residents in Taiwan. Many netizens expressed their gratitude to the mainland experts for coming to Taiwan and hoped that Tuan Tuan's condition can be improved.

Have you ever wondered whypeople get shorter as they get older? Why do some people lose so much height asthey get older? How to prevent height loss? Let’s see what the experts say.

Once you become an adult, you typically reach your full height. But your height can change with age, andit’s no myth — you shrink with time.

People usually lose abouta centimeter in height every 10 years after age 40, according to Medline Plus, and that pace of height loss speeds up after age 70. Overall, you can losebetween 1 to 3 inches in height as you age, per Medline Plus.

While age-related heightloss is normal, there are times when it's a sign of an underlying healthcondition.

Why do you get shorter as you age?

On a macro level, you getshorter as you age due to changes in the bones, muscles and joints. “There area few different things going on here,” Dr. Angela Catic, a geriatrician andassociate professor in the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College ofMedicine, tells Yahoo Life. One, she says, is that the discs between thevertebrae in your spine lose fluid as you get older. “They become dehydratedand, with that, they lose height — and you lose a bit of height,” she says.

Abdominal muscles alsotend to weaken over time, which can create a stooped posture, causing you toappear shorter, Catic says.

In women, menopause can speed up bone loss “due to theloss of the protective effects of estrogen on bones,” Dr. Arashdeep Litt, aninternal medicine physician with Spectrum Health, tells Yahoo Life. That, too,can cause you to get shorter.

But height loss can alsobe due to osteoporosis, a bone disease that develops when bone mineral densityand bone mass decreases, or when the quality or structure of bone changes, Littsays. That can decrease your bone strength and increase your risk of fractures, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

How to tell the difference between normal height lossand signs of osteoporosis

So, how can you know what’sbehind your shrinking size? Your doctor will suspect osteoporosis if you havean overall height loss of 1.5 inches or more, Litt says. “This much height lossis a sign of osteoporosis and warrants a bone density test,” she says.

The test can tell howstrong your bones are and will determine if you have osteoporosis, as well as your risk of fractures in thefuture.

    How to prevent height loss

Again, some height loss isnormal. But Catic says you can lower your risk of height loss by doing thefollowing:

    Exercise regularly.

Lift weights (this, alongwith regular exercise, stresses your bones and makes them stronger).

Eat a diet rich in calciumand vitamin D to support bone health.

Avoid smoking, excessivealcohol use and excessive caffeine intake —all of which are risk factors for osteoporosis.

Chinese Nationalist Party Legislator Charles Chen claimed that staff at theNational Palace Museum in Taipei dropped and broke two ceramic items, while related information was concealed. Confirming that three items in its archive had been damaged, the TaipeiPalace Museum said they did not intentionally conceal it and theinvestigation is ongoing.

In a statement, the museum wrote that on Feb 3, 2021and April 7, 2022, while staff members were organizing artifacts, theydiscovered upon opening packages that a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) "yellowteacup with two green dragons" and a Qing Dynasty (1636–1911) "yellowteacup with dragon pattern" were damaged. Additionally, on May 19, 2022,due to staff mishandling, a Qing Dynasty "blue-and-white floralplate" fell and broke.

The negligence leading to the damage of artifacts at the museum wasimmediately condemned by a large number of netizens. People on both sides of the Straits have not only greatly deplored thedamage of the cultural relics, but also have doubts over the attitude, abilityand motivation of the incumbent management of the Taipei Palace Museumregarding the protection of nearly 700,000 cultural relics housed there.

Regarding the damaged artifacts, the museum wrote that the Ming dynasty “yellow teacup with two green dragons”is being repaired. The Qing dynasty “yellow teacup with dragon pattern” isawaiting repairs, while the Qing dynasty “blue-and-white floral plate” will berepaired after penalties are issued.

Many people are wondering if the public hadn'texposed the incident, would it have been covered up by the Taipei Palace Museumforever? In places in the museum where the public has not paid attention to,are there more valuable artifacts that have been damaged but coveredup?

The museum's curator Wu Mi-cha said the threebroken artifacts were not insured, so the liability for compensation is stillto be confirmed. He also claimed that the three broken artifacts had never beenput on display and only the three artifacts were damaged in his term ofoffice.

Three artifacts were damaged in only two years, many people doubt thereasons behind. Global Times commented that it'sknown to all that the collections in the Taipei Palace Museum areextraordinary. They are cultural treasures belonging to the entire Chinesenation as well as testimony and inheritance of China's long history andsplendid culture. They are of more special and richer historical, culturaland ethnic value as they went through China's war of resistance againstJapanese aggression and the Chinese civil war and have become the cultural linkand historical bonds that cannot be cut off between the Taiwan island and theChinese mainland.

However, the current management staff of the TaipeiPalace Museum have spent more efforts in downplaying and avoiding these aspectsthan they have invested in the protection and management of the preciouscultural relics. Taking the precious cultural relics of the TaipeiNational Palace Museum as political resources, the political manipulations erodedthe due respect to the relics and damaged the professional ability in theprotection and management of cultural relics, which led to the damage happened oneafter another.

The figure is higher than the 9.9 percent recorded in September, accordingto a preliminary report on Monday by Eurostat, the EU’s statistics agency.

Eurostat attributed the main components of the grim report to energyprices, which jumped 41.9 percent from the previous year, following a 40.7percent rise in September. Food, alcohol and tobacco rose 13.1 percent whilenon-energy industrial goods increased 6 percent and services moved up 4.4percent.

The three Baltic states are among those nations hardest hit, with inflationremaining above 20 percent, topped by Estonia with a jump of 22.4 percent.

The report was released just days after the European Central Bank, whosetarget is to keep inflation under 2 percent, hiked interest rates by 0.75percentage point last Thursday. The ECB also promised further rises andforecast an extended economic slowdown in the eurozone.

ECB President Christine Lagarde warned that eurozone economic activitylikely “slowed significantly in the third quarter of the year and we expect afurther weakening in the remainder of this year and beginning of next year”.

While Wentian is to be usedfor biological and space life science projects, such as observing the growth ofmultiple kinds of plants, animals and microbes in space, Mengtian will be usedfor in-orbit experiments dedicated to physics and material sciences and willfocus on micro-gravity experiments.

As well as being a lab module,Mengtian will also act as a backup for the core module when it is undergoing maintenance. And with Mengtian inplace, the space station will be able to host more astronauts. There are threeastronauts on board the space station at the moment. When Shenzhou XV arriveswith a change of crew, scheduled for early December, there will be six Chineseastronauts living on the space station for a time until the return of the ShenzhouXIV mission crew members.

China's space station will bethe only one in space in 2024, if an agreement can't be reached on extendingthe life of the International Space Station. The ISS was due to bedecommissioned in 2031, but that might not be feasible since it requires thecooperation of the United States and the European Union with Russia.

That the ISS is even stilloperational at this point is a testament to its design and engineering. Likethe ISS, China's space station will have to withstand tremendous stresses andstrain. While the power, environmental control and life support, and communicationssystems are all repairable or replaceable in orbit, the operational lifetime ofthe spacecraft is limited by the integrity of the primary structure. This hasto bear the strain of repeated vehicle dockings and undockings, and the stresseffects of daily temperature swings of about 278 degrees Celsius in eitherdirection.

Mengtian means "dreamingof heaven" in Chinese. And China's space station will not only carry thenation's dream of exploring space, but also that of humankind as a whole whenthe ISS meets its fiery fate.

China views learning moreabout the vast cosmos as a common dream of humankind, and researchers fromother countries already have access to China's orbiting laboratory. China hasselected nine initial international experiments for the space station through acollaborative project with the United Nations, and more are to follow. It isalso anticipated that the space station will host astronauts of variousnationalities during its lifetime as China is encouraging international spaceexchanges and cooperation to help protect the Earth, improve people'swell-being and serve human progress.

The State Council, China's Cabinet, rolled out a major regulation on Tuesday to promote the country's 111 millionself-employed businesses, which industry experts said will greatly boostconfidence and resilience among private smaller businesses over the long term.

According to the regulation that willtake effect on next Tuesday, greater supportive policies, including ontaxation, finance, employment, digital development and intellectual propertyprotection, will be provided to self-employed households.

The regulation also emphasizes therole of self-employed households in driving the market and economy, andstressed that China will unswervingly encourage, support and guide the development of suchbusinesses.

"The new regulation has moredetailed and targeted supportive policies, which is of significance inpromoting the development of self-employed households," said Li Zhiqi,vice-chairman of the Beijing Federation of Industry and Commerce.

For instance, the regulationencourages financial institutions to offer financial products and servicestargeting self-employed households, as well as larger scale coverage of loans, which will help relieve financing difficulties among these individualhouseholds, Li said.

"Such efforts will offer timelysupport, as self-employed households, which rely on their own means to surviveand develop in niche markets, are relatively weak in resisting external risks, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic," he added.

The latest data from the StateAdministration for Market Regulation showed that more than 111 millionself-employed households were registered nationwide as of the end of September, accounting for two-thirds of the country's total number of market players. Theyalso were responsible for about 300 million jobs.

A survey provided by the administrationshowed that since the beginning of this year, nearly 80 percent of individualhouseholds brought in an average monthly operating income of less than 10,000yuan ($1,389), which can only support basic living standards.

Over the past few years, thegovernment has launched a package of policies to support the development ofself-employed households. The SAMR rolled out two specialized platforms toimprove services for such groups.
