Greater Bay Area concert adds nostalgia to holiday

大湾区音乐晚会，假日的一抹怀旧情调

More than 100 renowned filmmakers and musicians from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan gathered on Tuesday in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, to celebrate the holiday with a touch of nostalgia at the Mid-Autumn Festival concert in the Greater Bay Area.

周二，来自内地（大陆）、香港、澳门、台湾的百余名著名电影人和音乐人齐聚深圳，唱响大湾区音乐晚会，是大湾区中秋电影音乐晚会上的一抹怀旧情调。

At the gala, Faye Wong sang the theme song, Bay, which borrowed from the lyrics of the traditional Guangdong nursery rhyme "Moonlight Light", and the dazzling performance brought the show to a climax.

歌手王菲献唱晚会主题曲《湾》。歌曲借鉴了广东传统童谣《月光光》的歌词，现场灯火阑珊，演出渐入佳境。

With the bright moon of Mid-Autumn Festival shining on the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, nicknamed the Spring Cocoon for its shape, popular melodies triggered the audience's nostalgia.

皎皎中秋月嵌于夜空，高悬于“春茧”——华润深圳湾体育中心上方。馆内歌曲空灵纷纷，不断勾起听众的怀旧之情。

The concert, which added to the joy and warmth of the traditional Chinese festival, was also a cheerful celebration of the economic prosperity created by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Online Shopping Festival and a cultural exchange sparked by the gala.

除了增添中秋佳节的欢愉与暖意，晚会也在为“粤港澳大湾区购物节”以及文化交流所拉动的经济增长，致以热烈的庆贺。

With a theme of family reunion and the use of classic film music throughout the performance, the concert featured a grand star lineup, a host of songs from classic Hong Kong films that continue to resonate, a remarkable duration at 150 minutes, and was broadcast, livestreamed and covered by mainstream media across the mainland and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, said Dong Ruifeng, director of the editor-in-chief's office at the CCTV Film Channel.

Over 100 livestream channels on Taobao, promoted by popular Chinese e-commerce influencers and celebrities from the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, were set up to promote over 2,000 products of Greater Bay Area brands. Among the influencers were Viya and Austin Li, who are household names and online-shopping trendsetters on the mainland.

在众多内地与港澳的知名电商主播和网红的推动下，淘宝平台推出百余个直播渠道，专门用于推广超过两千个大湾区的品牌产品。像薇娅、李佳琦等主播在内地更是家喻户晓，引领网络购物的热潮。

Viewers could also scramble for digital red packets worth a total of 10 million yuan ($1.55 million) while binge-watching the star-studded gala.

The concert was simulcast on the CCTV-6 movie channel, as well as several leading television stations in the Greater Bay Area, and broadcast live on new media platforms including People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency.

观看直播的观众欣赏明星云集的晚会的同时，还能抢价值1000万元（折合约155万美元）的红包。晚会在中央电视台电影频道、大湾区数家主流电视台联播，人民日报、新华社等新媒体平台上也进行了同步直播。

The three-week-long Greater Bay Area online shopping festival, which started on Sept 2, was wrapped up amid the climax of the gala. The festival featured 800,000 merchants from the region, nearly 300,000 brands and 13 million products on e-commerce platforms.

于9月2日启动的首届“粤港澳大湾区购物节”持续了三周，终于在晚会的高潮中完美落幕。“购物节”吸引了来自大湾区的80万名商家、近30万个品牌以及1300万个于电商平台上销售的产品。

The shopping festival helped revive the retail markets in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, sending consumers from across the country on a shopping spree. Data show that between Sept 2 and 21, transactions totaled over 100 billion yuan.

“购物节”为广东、香港和澳门的零售市场注入了新的活力，全国各地的消费者都加入了这场购物狂欢。数据显示，9月2日至21日期间，购物节达成的交易总额已超过1000亿元人民币。

The festival was welcomed by Hong Kong retailers, as it opened a bigger market and platform, thereby raising the profile of Hong Kong's homegrown brands.

此次活动在香港零售界反响强烈。商家认为，“购物节”不仅打开了市场，拓宽了平台，还提升了香港本土品牌的知名度。

Ma Pak Leung, a nearly 200-year-old traditional Chinese medicine brand, recorded a 14 percent increase in aggregate turnover.

拥有近200年历史的香港中药品牌“马白良”的总营业额增长了14%。

"The integration of development in the Bay Area and the burgeoning of wellness medicine on the Chinese mainland will create tremendous room for improvement for local brands, including us," said Chu Ka-yuk, Ma Pak Leung's marketing and sales manager.

该品牌的营销兼销售经理朱嘉裕表示，大湾区的综合发展，加之内地不断兴起对保健品的关注，给包括“马百良”在内的本土品牌创造了巨大的提升空间。

The festival will also allow more people to get to know the brand's legacy, pedigree and culture, he added.

他补充说：“购物节让更多的人了解到我们品牌的传统、起源及文化。”

中国电影在TIFF展示魅力｜Chinese films display range at TIFF

A total of nine outstanding Chinese films will be featured in the "Chinese Film Industry Exhibition" at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

共有9部优秀的中国电影将在世界最富盛名的电影活动之一 — 2021年多伦多国际电影节（TIFF）的“中国电影展”中亮相。

The 46th festival kicked off last week with the opening-night film Dear Evan Hansen, one of nearly 200 movies at the TIFF official selection in both digital and in-person screenings.

第46届电影节上周以开幕片《致埃文汉森》拉开帷幕，这是TIFF官方评选的近200部电影中的一部，包括数字和现场放映。

Film lovers, directors, film practitioners and media from around the world will attend the festival, which runs from Sept 9-18.

This year's festival offers more indoor screenings than last year's smaller showcase, which was largely held online amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Red-carpet galas and press conferences also were set to return with international stars, but without the usual crowds.

Films focusing on the centenary of the founding of the CPC and portraying the revolutionary pioneers will appear in the exhibition, including 1921, which is about the first group of Chinese Communists who take up the important task of saving the country.

There is director Zhang Yimou's first war film Cliff Walkers, about a spy, and the war film Beyond the Skies, which shows a conflict between survival and destruction.

Beyond the Skies portrays poetic film aesthetics in telling the story of a revolutionary and loyal military operation in China in 1935. A young soldier receives an order to gather other comrades in the perilous mountains to fight the enemy. The film turns cruelty into poetry, creating breathtaking moments during a turbulent era.

《云霄之上》描绘了诗意的电影美学，讲述了1935年中国的一次革命军事行动。一个年轻的士兵接到命令，要在危险的山区召集其他战友与敌人作战。影片把残酷描绘成诗，在一个动荡的时代创造了独特韵味。

The selected films also show love and family, such as You Jia, which tells the story of the filial piety of Chinese families; Deep Love, a love story of dream-seekers in Shenzhen; and Going Home, which focuses on a father's love. The films tell warm stories reflecting the collision of intergenerational concepts and consciousness amid modernization.

入选影片还展示了爱情和家庭，如讲述中国家庭孝道的《有家》、深圳寻梦人的爱情故事《深爱》和关注父爱的《父爱永不止息》。这些影片讲述了温暖的故事，反映了现代化进程中代际观念和意识的碰撞。

According to the Chinese Culture and Art Exchange Association in North America, (CCAEANA), one of the exhibit's organizers, the films show the enthusiasm and professionalism of Chinese filmmakers, present the market structure of Chinese films with a positive energy and infuse the unique charm of Chinese culture into the Toronto festival.

据展览主办方之一北美中国文化艺术交流协会（CCAEANA）介绍，这些影片展现了中国电影人的热情和专业精神，呈现了中国电影正能量的市场结构，为多伦多电影节注入了中国文化的独特魅力。

In recent years, the Chinese film industry has developed rapidly, and many excellent film companies, producers and directors with international perspectives have emerged. They are eager to exchange, learn and cooperate with their international peers.

近年来，中国电影产业发展迅速，涌现出许多具有国际视野的优秀电影公司、制片人和导演。他们渴望与国际同行交流、学习和合作。

"The exhibition at TIFF is a platform to show the world the strength of Chinese film, and also a platform to promote the integration and win-win of the Chinese film industry and the world film industry," said Lisa Lin, director of CCAEANA.

“TIFF的展览是一个向世界展示中国电影实力的平台，也是一个促进中国电影产业与世界电影产业融合共赢的平台，”北美中国文化艺术交流协会主任林丽莎说。

Lin said the organization has reached out to more than 700 registered international buyers at TIFF, which can facilitate exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries on copyright transactions, co-production, post-production and other creative activities.

The film festival will wrap with the awarding of the People's Choice prize. Several previous winners of the award have gone on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, including Slumdog Millionaire, The King's Speech, 12 Years a Slave, Green Book, and Nomadland, by Chinese-born filmmaker Chloe Zhao, earlier this year.

这首诗融诗情画意与哲理为一体，韵律婉转，意境空明，用春、江、花、月、夜这五种事物集中体现了人生最动人的良辰美景，构成了诱人探寻的奇妙艺术境界。

春天的夜晚，我看见潮水涨起，江显得广阔起来，仿佛大海一般。在这海的尽头，在翻涌而来的浪潮中，一轮明月升起来了。

明月的光荡漾在这大江里，随着漫漫江水的波涛，行千里，行万里，于是在这个春天的晚上，有哪一处江没有明亮的月光呢？

花遍开原野，江水就蜿蜿蜒蜒地从中流过。月光倾泻在鲜花盛开的树林上，远远看去，就好像撒了一层细密晶莹的雪珠，在月下闪着光泽。

月光如雪，月色如霜，纵然空中有飞霜，也看不出了。天地间是柔和静谧的白光，白光与远处岸汀的白沙融为一体，是茫茫的一片。

夜色是纯净的，是空明的，江与天相接，了无纤尘，唯有明月皎皎，一轮孤悬，涤荡万物。

这样的明月，千秋万古前，第一个如我现在一般，在江边见到她的人，是谁呢？如果反过来想，又是从什么时候起，月光第一次照到了人世间？

从那时起，人世已经过去太久太久了。如同眼前的江水一边，世代相传，无穷无尽，而天上的明月，却是年复一年，孤独地徘徊中天。

明月如此眷恋，她是在等什么人吗？似乎永远都不能如愿，所见唯有大江急流，江水奔腾远去。

天上，一片白云正悠悠飘去，仿佛游子驾的一叶扁舟；而在送行的青枫浦，人与枫林皆愁绪万千。

驾舟而去的游子，是谁家的少年？愁绪万千的女子，又正倚在哪一座明月楼上相思？

月有心，不舍离开女子，将自己的光洒在她的妆镜台上；月也是恼人的，如同才下眉头又上心头的离愁，赶也赶不走。月照在玉户帘上，卷起帘子，月又落进屋里。月照在捣衣砧上，拂去又回来。

既赶不走，那便望月，远处的丈夫或许也在望月，千里共婵娟，只是无法相依相诉。若如此，她愿追随着这月光，将自己的思情洒给心中所念之人。

然而这思念终究还只是她自己的，仿佛传书的鸿雁，飞不出月的光影；仿佛心如鱼龙潜跃水，也只是在水面上留下一层波纹。这银辉色的，令人怅惘的世界啊！

此时游子在忆着昨夜的梦，梦里他看见花落幽潭，春光将老，人还远隔天涯，情何以堪！可恨着日夜不停的流水，裹挟着春天，裹挟幸福，裹挟着大好年华消逝而去，正如潭上的月，也西斜将落。

如海一般的大江上腾起雾气，月沉沉地落下，藏进了雾中。在夜的迷茫中，有天涯之北游子，与天涯之南的离人，他们相隔的路，仿佛遥远到走也走不完。

但这皎洁的月光却是适宜赶路的。趁着月色，有多少游子已经踏上了回家之路呢？这世上数不尽的离愁别绪，诉不完的情思，都化进月色中，撒满了江边的树林。

这首经典诗作的亮点实在太多。一开篇就写到江潮浩瀚无垠，仿佛和大海连在一起，气势宏伟的壮丽画面，此时一轮明月随潮涌生，景象更为壮观。

笔尖婉转下， “江畔何人初见月，江月何年初照人”的神句显示出张若虚的神思飞跃。“谁是江边第一个看见月亮的人，江边的月亮最早什么时候照到人类”，视野突然就扩大到整个宇宙，变成人与大自然的对话，充满哲学意味。

接下来的两句也别开生面，思想没有陷入前人窠臼，而是翻出了新意：“人生代代无穷已，江月年年只相似。” 个人的生命是短暂即逝的，而人类的存在则是绵延久长的。

另外写到思妇对离人的怀念时，张若虚不直说思妇的悲和泪，而是用“月”来烘托她的怀念之情，“可怜楼上月徘徊”。他把“月”拟人化，“徘徊”二字极其传神：一是浮云游动，故光影明灭不定；二是月光怀着对思妇的怜悯之情，在楼上徘徊不忍去。

而“愿逐月华流照君”一句更是把相思写得极动人，她愿追随着这月光，将自己的思情洒给心中所念之人。

再者写到游子，诗人用落花、流水、残月来烘托他的思归之情。江水流春，流去的不仅是自然的春天，也是游子的青春、幸福和憧憬。

最后这句“落月摇情满江树”里的“摇情”说的是不绝如缕的思念之情，将月光之情，游子之情，诗人之情交织成一片，洒落在江树上，也洒落在读者心上，情韵袅袅，摇曳生姿，令人心醉神迷。

著名画家、诗人、美学家蒋勋小时候因为《春江花月夜》赚了很多钱，因为他爸爸说“你背一句，我给你一块钱”，所以就把这首诗背熟了。

他主张标题里的五个字都是名词，而非互相修饰关系。春天、江水、花朵、月亮、夜晚。像一首交响曲的五个乐章，五个主题在交错，它们之间发生了三棱镜般的折射关系。

他总结道，《春江花月夜》是初唐气派最辽阔的一首诗——该诗不是张若虚个人化的才气表现，而是强调了初唐时期人的精神里一种前所未有的辽阔，在空间和时间上都开始伸展。

带着这份辽阔，吟诗、赏月、度假，岂不美哉。

The results of the 2021 Election Committee's subsector ordinary elections in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were unveiled on Monday morning as 364 of 412 candidates were elected as members in 13 subsectors of the Election Committee.

The Election Committee is endowed with important functions under the improved electoral system, including nominating candidates for the Chief Executive election, electing the Chief Executive designate, nominating candidates for the Legislative Council (LegCo) election, and electing 40 LegCo members.

After the voting hours of the elections ended at 6:00 pm on Sunday, the HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam said the elections, the first after improvements to Hong Kong's electoral system, are particularly meaningful.

The elections show that the HKSAR implements the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong" in its political system, safeguards national sovereignty, security and development interests, and ensures the successful implementation of "one country, two systems," she said.

Out of the 1,500 seats of the Election Committee, 325 people were determined to be validly registered as ex-officio members, 156 people were validly nominated to be members of the Election Committee and 603 candidates were uncontested, while 412 candidates competed for 364 seats.

The actual number of members of the Election Committee will be fewer than 1,500 due to the LegCo election yet to be held and the overlapping status of some ex-officio members.

The five-year term of the new Election Committee will start on Oct 22 of this year and end on Oct 21, 2026.

太空出差三人组，到家了！丨Space station crew lands in Inner Mongolia

The reentry capsule carrying crew members of the Shenzhou XII mission has landed in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
神舟十二号返回舱载着任务船员已在内蒙古自治区着陆。

The capsule, with mission commander Major General Nie Haisheng, Major General Liu Boming and Senior Colonel Tang Hongbo inside, touched down at 1:34 pm at the Dongfeng Landing Site in the Badain Jaran Desert.
舱内有任务指挥官聂海胜、刘伯明和唐洪波，于下午1时34分在巴丹吉林沙漠的东风着陆场着陆。

Ground personnel sent by the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center have rushed to the landing point by helicopters and off-road vehicles and are preparing to open the capsule's hatch and then help the astronauts move out of the craft.

Nie and his crew spent 92 days in space since their Shenzhou XII spacecraft was launched at the Jiuquan center on June 17. They were the first inhabitants of China’s permanent space station named Tiangong, or Heavenly Palace, living inside the gigantic station for 90 days.

During their stay with Tiangong, the astronauts carried out two extravehicular activities, or spacewalks, using a large robotic arm and other equipment to install and adjust devices outside the station. They also performed a number of scientific experiments and technological tests, and made video calls with President Xi Jinping and hundreds of researchers, teachers and students in Hong Kong.

In 2022, two large space labs will be launched to connect with the core module. Moreover, two manned missions and two robotic cargo flights will be made that year to continue construction of the Chinese space station, which is scheduled to become complete and start formal operation around the end of next year.

The upcoming subsector elections for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Election Committee will create an administering team of patriots who will assume responsibility for local governance and integration into national development, experts said.

专家表示，即将举行的香港特别行政区选举委员会的界别分组一般选举将建立起一支由爱国者组成的管理团队，他们将承担地方治理和融入国家发展的责任。

The Election Committee's subsector elections will take place on Sunday. This vote will be the first since the 13th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, adopted a decision in March on improving Hong Kong's electoral system in a bid to ensure "patriots administering Hong Kong".

Under the reform, the Election Committee was enlarged to 1,500 members representing five sectors and given more powers, extended from only electing the city's chief executive to also nominating Legislative Council members.

The central government unveiled a plan on Sept 6 to expand Hong Kong's neighboring economic zone of Qianhai in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, from 14.92 square kilometers to 120.56 square kilometers in a move to strengthen ties between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao to boost the technology, medicine and finance industries.

The Qianhai plan is another important step to boost the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a major national economic development strategy. In such a scenario, Tian said Hong Kong needs a stronger and more effective government and Legislative Council to meet the requirements of national strategies and participate in the overall development of the country.
前海规划是推动粤港澳大湾区一体化这一国家重大经济发展战略的又一重要举措。 在这种情况下，田飞龙表示，香港需要一个更强大、更有效的政府和立法会，以满足国家战略的要求，参与国家整体发展。

"This new election is the corresponding institutional support for the upgrade of governance requirements. The goal of the electoral system reform is to ensure the stability, quality and orderliness of Hong Kong's democratic development. We expect that this will be realized in this election," he added.

The Election Committee will also be more broadly representative and democratic. Zhang Jian, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Research Section of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, said the composition of the committee has been expanded from four to five sectors, adding youth representatives, and members of national organizations, grassroots and labor associations.

社评：美国嗜战，世界遭殃| US war record not one to boast of

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was grilled by lawmakers in acontentious hearing on Monday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee over how the administration hadmishandled the military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
美国国务卿安东尼•布林肯周一在众议院外交事务委员会就从阿富汗撤军问题举行的争议性听证会上受到议员们的盘问。

They called the process "a disaster" and "a disgrace". They tried to seek answers as to why Americans and Afghans who had worked for the US government for years were left behind in total chaos before the military completed its withdrawal on Aug 30. They demanded accountability.

From 1992 to 2017 the number increased fourfold to 188.

Wars are costly, and it is US taxpayers who foot the bill. The war on terror that started in 2001, has cost the US an estimated $8 trillion, and claimed over 900,000 lives around the world over the past two decades, according to a report issued recently by the Costs of War Project of Brown University. The war in Afghanistan alone has cost $2.3 trillion. That represents $300 million a day over the 20 years.

According to a 2017 Pew survey, 39 percent of the respondents across 38 countries consider US influence and power a direct and major threat to their countries.
