This week on the show Haley & Alyssa are chatting with professional triathlete Rachel Olson. Rachel grew up as a competitive swimmer, but after her collegiate swimming years she transitioned into triathlon. After a breakout season in 2019 as a professional with several top 5 finishes at the 70.3 distance, Rachel battled a knee injury that kept her from training and racing at full capacity for almost two years. But after a successful surgery to repair her knee Rachel is ready to make her 2022 race debut this weekend at the Couples Championship Triathlon in St. Petersburg Florida. This inaugural championship will feature 14 pro triathlete couples, who will be racing for a first place prize of $100k. Each partner will race a super sprint distance consisting of a 400m swim, 10 mile bike and 5km run. Rachel is an organizer of the event, and she gives us the behind the scenes scoop of how it all came together.
The event is sponsored by Waterfall Bank, which has recently formed a professional triathlon team. Rachel and her partner are members of this newly formed team, and she talks about their goal of creating a culture in triathlon that is friendly and welcoming for all.
Rachel and her partner also have a YouTube channel called Chasing Triathlon. She talks about the ins and outs of filming training sessions, editing, and being their own media crew. You can follow their channel on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChasingTriathlon
