This week on Girls Gone Gravel Kathryn and Kristi chat with ultra-runner and cyclist Hillary Allen. A self-proclaimed “science nerd,” Hillary took up running in graduate school as a stress reliever while working towards her PhD in neuroscience and physiology. She quickly excelled in the sport and found her way to the top of the ultra running world. In 2017 she was number one in the World Sky Running Series Ultra Division, earning herself the nickname Hillygoat. Later that year Hillary had a major accident during a race, falling over 150ft and breaking 14 bones. Her doctors told her she would never run again, but Hillary was not willing to accept this fate. She talks about her long and winding road to recovery, and how she found cycling along the way as a means to build her body back into a stronger runner. Hillary tells us how she used these tough moments to redefine strength and to find learning opportunities from hard times. You can learn more about Hillary, and find her book “Out and Back: A Runner’s Story of Survival Against All Odds” on her website at www.hillaryallen.com Follow Hillary on Instagram @hillygoat_climbs To learn more about the Gone Graveling festival and register for the event go to: https://www.girlsgonegravel.com/festival **Support the Girls Gone Gravel Podcast** InsideTracker: get 25% off at insidetracker.com/feisty Ottolock: get 25% all products with code girlsgonegravel at https://ottodesignworks.com/shop/ottolock (US only)
