Lady! Take a deep breath because this week Terri and Dr. Dom are about to bring it to you. A major part of growing and expanding is being present enough to be aware and accountable for your ish. That’s right, you can only go as deep with someone as you’ve gone with yourself. That means, are you having honest conversations with yourself that allow you to identify and address the areas where it’s you (not them) that needs to be accountable? Accountability is not easy to master but once you do, you’ll see real tangible results in the quality of your relationships. Dr. Dom and Terri give you a taste of what a healthy accountability practice looks like with actionable steps you can use in today’s mini episode. Today’s sponsor is VB Health, known for science-backed, third-party tested supplements made in the USA. Try Soaking Wet, which supports vaginal health and balance. Life is good...like REALLY good. In fact, it’s LIT. You’re “blessed and highly favored.” To the casual observer, everything on the outside appears to be wonderful. But on the inside...you feel empty. Lady, is this you? If so, you may be experiencing depression. What we know for sure is that ALL of us will experience symptoms of depression related to many normal life events like a relationship breakup, grief over a loss, or other stressors. For most of us, the feelings of sadness last for a few days at most. For others, if the symptoms last more than a two weeks we may be experiencing a major depressive episode. In today's throwback episode, Terri and Dom discuss what depression looks like; what are some causes; and why we need to reduce the stigma so that we can take care of ourselves. Terri shares with us pieces of her journey with depression and Dom addresses the uncomfortable topic of suicide. Some Common Signs and Symptoms of Depression: Sadness Anger Loss of interest or pleasure Changes in sleep, weight, appetite Quote of the Day: “I don’t think people understand how stressful it is to explain what’s going on in your head when you don’t even understand it yourself”- Anonymous Takeaways: Take 5 minutes a day to pour into yourself (meditation, walking, talking with your support system) Check on your friends- especially the strong ones Mood Tracker app If you or someone you know ever has thoughts of suicide please contact National Suicide Prevention Hotline Resources: Therapy for Black Girls Psychology Today Where to find us: Twitter: @HERspacepodcast Instagram: @herspacepodcast Facebook: @herspacepodcast Website: herspacepodcast.com Email: [email protected] See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. We all know what it feels like when someone violates our boundaries but how do we know when we are the boundary violator? Have you ever... offered unsolicited advice? Gossiped? Said what you would do if you were in someone’s situation? Asked personal questions? Interrupted someone in the middle of a conversation? Touched someone’s hair? Touched someone on the shoulder? Asked a coworker where they lived? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you, like most of us, have been a boundary violator. In today’s throwback episode, Terri and Dom take us through multiple situations (including current events from pop culture and a subscriber question) in which we may be unintentionally invading someone’s personal space and offer us tips on how to navigate those situations. Hey lady! Have you ever been accused of being stuck-up, shy, rude, or flat-out a b*tch and you were simply existing? Other people’s projections land on you and suddenly you have a reputation for being anti-social or awkward while anxiety is beating your butt and you’re doing your best not to show it. Or, maybe you’re the one pre-emptively judging someone for their demeanor, creating stories about why they are behaving they way they are without pausing and finding a neutral space from which to observe the interaction. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri show some love to the socially selective, the socially anxious, and the downright awkward among us so that we can understand these relational dynamics and hopefully offer more compassion to ourselves and others. Why? Because we’re all doing life for the first time and we do not all have the answers but we can make the effort to help each other along the way. Have you noticed that certain situations trigger fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses from you? Dr. Dom offers an actionable toolkit to help you navigate those scenarios so you can enter spaces skillfully. And, Terri offers perspective about how you can give yourself grace because it is quite possible that you are reading the room accurately and acting perfectly appropriately even if other people misunderstand your behavior. Terri and Dr. Dom share their real-world experiences and how they’ve been able to adapt to situations while also identifying when they’ve personalized a situation without enough data or proper context. Lady, doing that can cause unforced errors in an otherwise fruitful potential relationship, so do yourself a favor, head over to the Cultivating H.E.R. Space shop, grab your journal and spend some time with the reflection questions offered in this episode. Lady, life is all about relationships so let’s expand our capacity to be in sisterhood by increasing our confidence and our understanding of our differences. We’re shaping this world into a beautiful one full of genuine authenticity! We’re partnered with VB Health, a doctor-formulated supplement brand focused on sexual wellness you can trust. Featuring Drive Boost (libido support for all genders). Most users report results after 1–2 weeks of consistent use. Lady! Are you in the mood for love but feeling allergic to shared finances, living together, and faking the funk of marital bliss? Don’t worry lady, this isn’t an episode for the lovestung cynics, it’s an ode to the changing nature of romantic relationships. Whether you eschew marriage altogether or you welcome long-term partnership but on your terms, we are thankfully in a time when new relationship templates are being welcomed and embraced by those who desire relationships. Previous generations often married for survival or necessity but this generation gets to partner based on shared values and goals. So, do you know what you want or need to be in a healthy relationship? Dr. Dom and Terri share some of their business as they illustrate how they defined what healthy relationships mean to them. Don’t feel left out! They’ve created the H.E.R. Relationship test, an assessment that will help you check the health of your current relationship or help you establish a framework of how you want to show up in your future relationship. They also reinforce that you don’t need to be with anyone to feel complete and if you do, you might want to talk to the lady about it. Book a consultation with Dr. Dom to discuss any issues of self-worth, attachment trauma, or self-esteem issues. Lady, the H.E.R. Relationship Test isn’t the only goodie in this episode but you’ll have to tune in to find out the other actionable items you can implement today to help you find a relationship that works best for you!
