As we watch young adults graduate from high school and college, the question comes up again; does having a diploma make you smarter and more successful? 

Can you maneuver through the world without schooling? And can different types of education or life skills can help you thrive?

I always have mixed feelings at this time of year. So many emotions have played into my skilled learning and how the education I have currently taken has made such a difference in my life. That, however, has not always been the case. Growing up with no parents caring if I even graduated from high school set me up for struggle. 

I think there is another side to this too. I see some parents putting ALL their time and energy into making sure they can have bragging rights on how smart their child is, only to see said child grow up and still not be able to handle the “real world”.  

All their achievements were to make their parents proud, and now they don’t know what they want to do or who they are. 

Be proud of your kids no matter what! It’s so exciting to see them start their life journey. Always let them know you are the safe place for them, encourage but don’t parent like they are 5 years old. 

They will come back to you and be so grateful that you believed in them!
