I am a 56-year-old married mother of two adult daughters. I spent the first half of my life at a very appropriate weight, but I never believed I was small enough or in shape enough. I did not appreciate the gift of a healthy body and spent far too much time criticizing how I looked. After my daughters were born, I began struggling a little more with weight and proceeded to do all the things I heard about that might help. I worked out, joined Weight Watchers, used the My Fitness Pal app and tried other strategies to, somewhat successfully, slow the weight gain that seemed inevitable.
As my 50th birthday approached I had big plans to lose weight, but that goal date came without any change in my size. During the pandemic I gained even more. About two years ago I heard the term Intermittent Fasting for the first time. I tried it without understanding the clean fast and failed miserably after two days. My oldest daughter became engaged in May 2021. I was so happy for her, but I immediately began worrying about how I would feel walking down the aisle at the highest weight I had ever been. Three months passed with me paralyzed by indecision and worrying that nothing would work, not to mention a sinking feeling that any weight lost would immediately return post wedding.
At 9 months to the wedding, I began searching the web for help. I remembered the term Intermittent Fasting from my failed attempt over a year ago. I googled the term and found Gin Stephens. After downloading Fast, Feast, Repeat and devouring it immediately, I began IF on August 22, 2022. The Fasting Highway podcast and Facebook page became my best friends because I waited many weeks before I told anyone what I was doing! I was able to release 40 pounds by the week before the wedding! I am so thankful for the way IF has changed, not just my body, but my entire outlook on life. Intermittent Fasting is a gift I give myself every day. I am thankful to have an opportunity to share that gift of health and hope with others.
