Health & Wellness Coach Karen Finn started her intermittent fasting lifestyle five years ago at age 50 to tackle undesirable menopausal symptoms and return to feeling like herself again. She had spent several years struggling with various symptoms, including weight gain, after being diagnosed as postmenopausal at age 43. Although she had tried other "get healthy" regimens that promised boundless energy and weight loss, nothing delivered a sustainable solution. However, when Gin Stephens' book, Delay, Don't Deny, was recommended through a women's menopause Facebook group, things changed.
Karen wanted to lose the extra menopausal weight that had crept up, but she was mainly keen to improve her overall health and find more energy. After reading Gin's book and joining her DDD Facebook group, Karen jumped in with a 16:8 and never looked back.
Within the first several months, Karen lost the extra weight – around 6kg – and has maintained her ideal weight ever since. She also noticed some menopause-related "non-scale victories", like better sleep, more energy, more stable mood, less bloating, greater mental clarity, lower
Within two weeks of starting IF, and before she'd lost weight, friends started commenting that she looked well and were asking what she was doing differently. As her friends started experiencing menopausal symptoms, they came to her for advice. This led Karen down a new career path from health journalist to supporting menopausal women. A lot of Karen's friends followed suit with IF under her guidance. She was so blown away by her and her friends' transformations that she decided to make her career change official and retrained as a health & wellness coach.
Karen continues to write about menopause and intermittent fasting and is a regular contributor to Menopause Matters magazine and co-author of the best-selling book "Women Action Takers Who Gained By Losing: Inspirational and Motivational Stories from Women.
