September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and if you've been a listener of the show you probably know that this topic is very near and dear to my heart. A little over two months ago my uncle took his own life after a very long and hard battle with mental illness and substance abuse. Today's episode is a re-release of the episode I recorded after his passing addressing suicide risks, warning signs, and protective factors for victims and family members. Let's all do our part to de-stigmatize suicide and mental health and continue to encourage the conversation with our loves ones, peers, and coworkers. Together we can make a difference. Together we can save a life.
Follow @selfcareisforeveryone for motivational messages that will help you feel uplifted and remind you of the importance of self-care over self-harm. During the month of September, they will be donating 100% of the profits from the 'Reaching Out Saves Lives Campaign' to suicide prevention non-profits.
IF YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS SUPPORT, A TRAINED COUNSELOR CAN BE REACHED BY CALLING THE NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE 1-800-273-8255 or by texting NAMI to 741-741.
