I was very excited to have Sarah Hechko, a licensed homeopath, join me on the podcast today. I often see a homeopath myself and have found it very helpful in my own recovery from an eating disorder. Homeopathy takes a holistic view of both physical and mental health by selecting remedies that match the entire symptom picture of each individual patient.
I asked Sarah several introductory questions about herself before diving into our discussion of homeopathy. She shared what drew her into this field - finding immense peace of mind and relief from anxiety after being treated with homeopathy for a minor physical complaint.
We explored what homeopathy actually is - a system of natural medicine that works on an energetic level to bring the body back into balance. I asked how it can help specifically with mental health issues like trauma, anxiety and mood disorders. Sarah explained that it helps people process emotions and memories that may have been suppressed.
An interesting aspect we discussed is how homeopathy can help clear generational trauma and unhealthy patterns. The remedies can work even for events in past generations that the patient wasn't consciously aware of.
On a practical level, I asked about what my treatment process would have been like if I had started homeopathy earlier in my eating disorder recovery while still deep in anxiety and survival mode. Sarah described asking questions about all my symptoms and matching remedies to the fear I was experiencing. We also discussed how homeopathy would have helped calm my stressed adrenal system and worked well combined with therapies like EMDR.
We touched on how long improvements can take - sometimes weeks, sometimes longer for deeper change. I emphasised the importance of no food rules or restrictions for those in eating disorder recovery even if nutritionally it doesn't seem ideal at first. The priority is giving the body easy access to energy.
It was a true wealth of information that will allow podcast listeners to better understand this lesser known but very effective holistic healing approach. I'm so grateful Sarah shared her extensive knowledge and experience with us today!
