Dr. Alisha Rai, is a South-African Canadian family physician who is deeply committed to advocacy for the disability community. This is fueled by her personal experience as a mother to a son with cerebral palsy. She co-founded a non-profit with her husband, Hope for Cerebral Palsy to fund quality private early interventional therapy for children with cerebral palsy. Additionally, she openly shares her experience with infertility and has the privilege of speaking at a TEDx event at the University of Mississippi. Her multifaceted background reflects a passion for healthcare, advocacy, and sharing impactful stories.
In this episode Dr. Jody and Dr. Alisha chat all about opportunities coming your way and the choices we make to take these opportunities to learn something new and love it or NOT and that is okay. Alisha tells us her incredible story that has so many layers, from joining the military in South Africa to raising a son with Cerebral Palsy. You Have the Power to Feel:  Amber Romaniuk

An actor, former athlete, activist and entrepreneur, Jesse is ready to take on any challenge (or dream) and make it happen. The Alberta native began his acting career at the age of 14, starring in the film Children of the Dust alongside legendary actor Sidney Poitier. However, Jesse put his acting career on hold at age 18 when he accepted a full athletic scholarship at the prestigious Moorhouse College in Atlanta. There, he thrived as a breakout track star.
Now, between his many ventures, Jesse continues to not only act but also produce many award-winning films and television productions (It’s Not My Fault, I Don’t Care Anyway, Tiny Plastic Men). You may also have seen Jesse in Netflix’s hit show, Black Summer.
Outside of the arts, Jesse invests in various businesses and runs a consultancy inspired by the #MakeItAwkward campaign he launched (with his wife,  Julia) in 2016 to combat racism, misogyny, homophobia and hatred. He works with organizations and leaders to help them understand and address racism. In 2023, Jesse published his debut novel, Jars, a coming-of-age story about acceptance, self-discovery and the adventures of being a young person struggling to find their place.
In 2017, Jesse was the recipient of the Obsidian Award for Top Business Leader in Western Canada. That year, he was also named the Community Man of the Year by Diversity Magazine.
Through it all, Jesse makes it his top priority to give back to his community. Jesse works with various annual charity fundraisers and partnerships in his home base of Edmonton.

Evan is more than his abilities as an ultra runner—he's a proud partner, father, friend, and former emergency services professional. His journey into ultra running began in 2017, a pivotal shift from a two-decade career that left him broken but resilient.
In this episode Dr. Jody and Evan chat candidly about PTSD and how working in the first responder world really is. Evan tells us how running (amongst other work) helped save him.
After years of selfless service, he confronted his struggles with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Through intensive therapy and countless miles on the trail, he found healing and purpose. He no longer ran away; he ran towards joy, showing others that there's always a path forward. Sharing his story is both terrifying and empowering, but it's through vulnerability that true strength emerges. Together, let's break the silence, embrace shared experiences, and remind each other that it's okay not to be okay.

In this podcast Dr. Jody and Sam dig into the heavy stuff about being present and your body's alignment when going through hard things.  Sam has an incredible light that we were all so drawn to and has taught us and so many others the importance of community.
Sam Taylor has a bunch of identifiers she's picked up along the way like mom, wife, writer, yoga instructor - also on the list is fiercely loyal friend and adept matchmaker (that applies to romantic set-ups and also finding you the best plumber). She is a lifelong advocate for the underdog, and never passed a wild lilac bush without sticking her entire head into it.
Lately though, her label has been cancer mom. In the summer of 2022 her 10yr old daughter was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. Almost two years post treatment, her daughter is on the other side and now Sam's need is to make sure every oncology parent finds their life preservers - so The Deep C Podcast began.  A space where Sam speaks to other cancer parents and shares these hard, enlightening and heroic stories.
