I’m super excited to have my good friend, Kylie Epperson, on the podcast today! She’s on a mission to help rural women live authentic, confident, and colorful lives, and has found immense gratitude as she’s experienced rural living, ag life, and motherhood. More recently, she’s passionate about building the Farm Wives Club™️ community and membership, and is thrilled to be offering the first live, in-person event this fall (September 2024)! Kylie has navigated her fair share of ‘high highs’ and ‘low lows’ on her farm wife journey over the last decade.
We aren’t meant to live life isolated, and think that no one understands our struggles - we should be actively connecting with others, and nurturing relationships that allow us to flourish. Kylie is actively building community and showing us that authentic connection IS possible (and very much needed).

In today’s episode, I want to talk about attachment and attunement, and why we need BOTH of these to not only survive, but thrive. But...what do these words even mean?! Attachment is really the foundation upon which everything else in our brain is built, and attunement is our awareness and responsiveness to the needs of others. Our society is severely lacking in both attachment and attunement, but that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way - we can change that, especially as we become more aware of how to do so.

This episode is a bit of a ‘proof of life’ one from Tom and I! Really though, we’re excited to give you a little update on how our cows are doing + other life happenings. This time of year is crazy busy for Tom and I as we’re deep into work on the ranch with calving season, branding cows, and a variety of other things going on for our family.
While this time of year brings an entirely new level of exhaustion (in more ways than one), it’s not terrible, and it also doesn’t last forever. We’re very family-oriented and grateful to still be together much of the time with everything going on. If you’re in a similar busy season, try to take it one day at a time; make sure you’re effectively communicating with those around you, and of course, don’t forget to draw good movement!

In today's episode, I’m talking about something that's vital regarding communication, relationships, and good movement; it’s also something that gets overlooked, and just gets a bad rap sometimes. Yep, I’m talking about boundaries! This was on my mind after a recent conversation I had with a friend; we were talking about the infamous, all too common theme of mom guilt. It can really eat us alive (I’ve totally felt it), and I know sooo many of us struggle with this!
As humans, we easily fall into feelings of guilt when we’re not doing what others are asking from us; we feel like we’re failing when we can’t do everything for everyone else. In today’s episode, I share why boundaries are kind, and (contrary to popular belief), are one of THE kindest, most generous actions you can show towards others!

We had a pretty memorable experience that happened during our recent calving season (we were several brandings deep into the season of spring work at the time of this recording). During this particular branding, some of the panels opened up, and quite a few remaining calves (along with a couple of cows) got loose, running out into the pasture. I made some observations that seemed to work really well for the cattle (and the people who were able to get the cattle back to the pen) during this time, so I wanted to discuss how they relate to human interactions as well.
All of these ‘lessons’ carry over to our interactions with other humans in our day to day lives. None of us are going to make good decisions, or even function well, if we’re in a state of distress and chaos. It’s vital that we give ourselves and those around us the space we need, and be crystal clear on where we’re heading. We can’t expect our loved ones, co-workers, etc., to be mind readers, and always know what we’re planning for next. Human communication affects so many parts of our lives; it’s a super important skill that we must continue building!

Thea is a working ranch wife and mom to two little cowboys, and the founder and host of all things Cowgirls Over Coffee. She’s on a mission to help women quit ‘white knuckling it’ through their days, and navigate a life that can get a little Western.
It’s easy to get caught up in feeling like you have to go, go, go and do #allthethings all the time, but if you really think about it, that’s not possible, and it’s NOT how we were meant to live. Life is a journey, not a destination; your growth and ‘inner work’ is never completely done, which is actually a beautiful thing. This was such a fun conversation with Thea, and she shared so much relatable wisdom. I hope it reminds you about the value that comes from good movement, and embracing the slow burn in your everyday life!

Today I want to touch on one of my favorite tools you can use to improve communication - asking honest questions! This is something I like to discuss often on the podcast, because I believe that honest questions and compassionate curiosity are one of THE best ways we can improve overall communication in our society. However, I also know this process doesn’t always feel natural - both for the person asking, and for the person on the receiving end.

In today’s episode, I discuss why there’s nothing wrong with talking about how we really are. Sometimes...things just SUCK. We have to be able to acknowledge our feelings, and normalize sharing honest answers when someone asks us how we’re doing. We shouldn’t feel like we need to sugarcoat our responses in order to appear like we have it all together - who is that actually helping anyway?!

At the time of this recording, we’re officially halfway through calving season, and at the tail end of the school year, so alllllll the things are going on! It’s also been one year since my dad passed away, and in all honesty, I am TIRED. Yeah...you could say I’m feeling kind of ‘meh’ about life right now. I know we all experience busy, chaotic, and quite frankly, draining times like these, so I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to share some simple ways of how I’m still prioritizing myself along the way.
No matter where you are, I want you to remember that we’re all HUMAN, and it’s important to find simple, everyday things that can help you prioritize yourself and your well-being along the way. After all, good movement, communication, and health and wellness are not a destination, friend; we’re all just learning and adjusting along the way!

Tom and I are here today to talk about a situation we just experienced with our cows - you could say it was rather...frustrating.
We’ve been practicing low stress stockmanship for almost two decades; it’s rare that we have to reach out to others for support, but in this case, we knew that was the best option for us to move forward. In today’s episode, Tom and I discuss more about why we should normalize asking questions, even though it feels difficult to do so in our society. Fortunately, Tom and I have wonderful mentors who are very well versed in low stress stockmanship. While their advice was helpful, their validation and support letting us know we weren’t alone with our ‘challenging’ cows was even MORE beneficial for us in that moment.
