Real Talk on Sobriety, Burnout & Building a Life That Feels Good | Mark & Jen Reflect
Welcome to Episode 50 of Homes That Heal! This episode is a little different. Itâs just me and Markâno guests, no scriptâreflecting on the highs, lows, and real-life lessons from this past year as entrepreneurs, partners, and people trying to live a more aligned life..
We talk about the burnout we didnât see coming, how we slowly found our way back to center, and why sharing our story (especially Markâs sobriety journey) has become one of the most meaningful things we do. Weâre just two people who believe in building something better, one honest conversation at a time.
This conversation is filled with honest reflections, a little humor (yes, cat-themed stationery is involved), and encouragement to make space for what really matters.
In this episode, we open up about:
[12:00] How working from home isnât for everyone
[16:20] Challenges of being your own boss
[29:00] Growing a business without losing your mind, your health, or your relationship
[34:30] Why weâre headed to Sedona for a full-on digital detox + wellness reset
[36:00 ]The surprising impact of vulnerability, and how it's connected us with people we didnât even know were listening

Mark Hellerâs Bio:
With a B.A. in marketing and nearly two decades of experience in residential property management, Mark Heller has honed his expertise in managing hundreds of properties, including Dane Countyâs largest residential communities, multi-family buildings, and flipped homes in and around Madison, WI.
In 2020, Mark pivoted from flipping properties to focus on residential property management and hard money lending. This transition was sparked by a frustrating experience with a simple loan refinance, which motivated him to explore alternative financial solutions. The discovery of the Infinite Banking Concept (IBC) through a real estate mastermind group was a turning point. After reading R. Nelson Nashâs Becoming Your Own Banker, Mark knew this strategy aligned perfectly with his vision for financial independence.
Today, Mark is passionate about teaching others how to leverage IBC to achieve financial freedom. When heâs not strategizing or assisting friends with real estate deals, he enjoys traveling, exploring National Parks, and spending time with his wife, Jen, and their beloved cats in southern Wisconsin.
