Did you know that oxidation is a major player in many chronic health issues? Now, imagine a world where a simple supplement could revolutionize your bone health and protect you from chronic conditions. Intrigued? You should be!
In this episode, we explore the world of vitamin E, specifically focusing on the lesser-known annatto tocotrienols. Unlike its well-known counterpart, alpha-tocopherol, which has been shown to be less effective and even potentially harmful, annatto tocotrienols are making waves in the health community for their incredible benefits.
Joining us today is the pioneer behind this groundbreaking discovery–Barrie Tan, PhD. Dubbed the "Tocotrienol King" by the esteemed cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra, Dr. Tan's expertise and passion for tocotrienols are unparalleled. He will share his insights on how annatto tocotrienols and geranylgeraniol (GG) can significantly improve bone health, especially for people with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia.
Whether you're looking to protect your bones as you age or seeking ways to reduce inflammation and lower your risk of chronic diseases, Dr. Tan's information could be life-changing.
Don't miss the chance to enhance your health journey with the latest scientific insights in today's episode of the Happy Bones, Happy Life podcast!
"I'm really grateful and blessed. When I went to South America 25 years ago, looking for something totally different, I was distracted by this wonderful-looking plant in the Amazonia. Little did I know that when I removed the color, there was this powerful vitamin E known as tocotrienol that most plants never make except this plant." - Barrie Tan, PhD

Did you know that stress and sleep quality affect your bone health? Is there something you can do to determine your risk for Osteoporosis?
Doctors usually diagnose Osteoporosis during routine screening for the disease or when the patient has had a fall or fractures. However, you don't have to wait for those things to happen before you take control of your health. You can work with your primary physician to order lab tests to determine your bone health condition or order the tests yourself.
Today, Dr. Kim Millman and I continue discussing the best lab tests for Osteoporosis, this time focusing on hormone testing. This episode is the second part of the Essential Bone Tests Masterclass. If you haven't listened to the first part of the discussion, make sure you catch it.
Dr. Millman is an integrated medical doctor and the founder of The Millman Clinic. She is an expert in Functional Medicine and Nutrition Response Testing, two holistic techniques she integrates into her medical practice.
Dr. Millman believes that being sick and tired is not a normal part of aging. She helps her patients realize that there is hope and that their conditions can be improved. She works with them to identify the root cause of their chronic ailment and designs a personalized wellness program that supports their body's ability to heal.

How do you uncover the root cause of bone loss? Doctors usually diagnose Osteoporosis during routine screening for the disease. The most common test for measuring bone mineral density is dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA). Today's guest recommends the best lab tests to help you determine your bone health.
Dr. Kim Millman is an integrated medical doctor and the founder of The Millman Clinic. She is an expert in Functional Medicine and Nutrition Response Testing, two holistic techniques she integrates into her medical practice. Her passion is to help people live the rich, full lives they deserve without the burden of chronic illness.
Dr. Millman does not prescribe a pill for every ill. Instead, she sees the person as a complicated interconnected web integrating the effects of emotions and stress with the biochemical aspects of the disease. She excels at embracing the complexities, which allows her to see the root of the problem. As a result, her patients see long-lasting solutions to their problems.
The first step to addressing bone health issues, specifically Osteoporosis, is determining the root cause, and the best way to do this is to take the essential lab tests discussed by Dr. Millman.

Gardening is an excellent physical activity that people of all ages can enjoy. It isn't just a pastime; it's a sanctuary of growth and vitality. But those with Osteoporosis may worry that pain and the fear of fractures will mean giving up their gardens.
If you feel severe pain while gardening, stop and consult your doctor. However, Osteoporosis should not prevent you from enjoying some form of gardening.
A significant benefit of gardening is that it's like having a workout in a pleasant and healthy environment. As you cultivate your garden, your body engages in weight-bearing and resistance activities that contribute to better health as long as you move safely.
Having Osteoporosis does not mean giving up the things you love doing. Enjoy your garden and smell the flowers!
In this episode, I demonstrate seven things you must avoid when gardening with Osteoporosis and what you should do instead.
Thank you for listening to another informative episode of the Happy Bones, Happy Life podcast!
"Be aware of your posture when you're in the garden and enjoy the garden. It's so wonderful—you're getting Vitamin D, you're out in the sun, it's relaxing, you're connected to nature, and you're planting. What could be better? And when you avoid these positions and use posture and body mechanics, you can do this safely. So it's a win-win situation." - Margie Bissinger

Many people take good care of their bodies but don't pay much attention to their mental health. Often, they associate stress and anxiety as a natural part of life. But the effect of mental stress, such as eating disorders, smoking, or physical inactivity, also threatens a person's physical well-being.
In this episode, Dr. Christina Bjorndal and I discuss the link between mental and physical health and how you can experience complete healing from the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects.
Dr. Chris is a licensed naturopathic doctor and established keynote speaker on regaining your mental health using a naturopathic approach. She is one of the only licensed NDs in Canada who is considered an authority in the treatment of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, eating disorders, ADD/ADHD, OCD, and schizoaffective disorders.
For years, Dr. Chris endured debilitating depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety and battled bulimia, addiction, and a range of other mental health challenges. Finally, feeling terrorized by her thoughts, she attempted to take her life. This devastating low point led to a profound reckoning. She began to take back control of her life. Today, she owns a thriving naturopathic clinic, living her life's purpose and passion in the most authentic way.
Her latest book, "Beyond the Label," will give you the courage, support, confidence, and guidance you need to take the steps toward mental wellness.

Just because you have Osteoporosis doesn't mean you can no longer lead an active lifestyle or you have to stay indoors to minimize the risk of falls and fractures.
Certain kinds of high-intensity loading can be safe and effective even for people with low bone mass if supervised under the right conditions. And that's what Dr. Belinda Beck and I are discussing today.
Dr. Belinda Beck, a powerhouse in the field of bone health, holds a BMHS(Ed), MS, PhD, and FACSM and is a professor in the School of Health Sciences & Social Work at Griffith University.
She developed Onero™, an evidence-based exercise program based on the LIFTMOR study conducted at Griffith University. With over 20 years of teaching musculoskeletal anatomy and conducting bone research, her expertise has garnered national and international recognition.
Dr. Beck serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of Healthy Bones Australia (formerly Osteoporosis Australia) and the Healthy Bones Australia National Consumer Advisory Committee.
Discover how Onero™ can improve your quality of life in today's informative episode of the Happy Bones, Happy Life podcast!
"A number on the DEXA scan doesn't even matter to me as long as the quality of life is improving. That's what I care about as a human, not as a researcher. As a postmenopausal person, I'm at risk like everybody else. So I care what my quality of life is like." - Dr. Belinda Beck

Mothers are the most powerful force on the planet. We are raising the next generation, feeding them, and teaching them. Sometimes, it's easy to forget what an important job we are doing as mothers. But a mom will do anything to keep their family safe and healthy.
I'm sure my guest will agree that moms have the potential to change the world, one family at a time. And that's exactly what she's doing.
Katie Wells, CTNC, MCHC, is the founder of Wellness Mama, an online resource for women and moms who want to live healthier lives. Katie and her team of researchers and medical advisors analyze a wide variety of health, parenting, and natural living topics and summarize the information in a clear and usable way. They aim to present practical tips, natural food recipes, DIY beauty instructions, green cleaning tutorials, natural remedies, and other information to improve people's lives.
Katie also hosts The Wellness Mama Podcast, a weekly podcast series covering the health topics of real food, stress, sleep, fitness, toxins, natural living, and much more to give you actionable steps to improve your family's health.
Katie is not a doctor or a health guru (that's why she has medical advisors!). She's just a mom who is super passionate about creating a healthy life for her family.
If you want to become a "Wellness Mama" like Katie and help create lasting change, we discuss some practical ways that you can take part in keeping your family healthy.
