Dr. Trevor Cates was the first woman licensed as a naturopathic doctor in the state of California and was appointed to California’s Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine Advisory Council. After working in several world-renowned spas, Dr. Cates became known as “The Spa Dr.” She sees patients in her private practice in Park City, Utah with a focus on graceful aging and glowing skin. She is also host of THE SPA DR. Podcast and the online Glowing Skin Summit. She is the author of Glowing Skin From Within. She believes the key to healthy skin is inner and outer nourishment.

If your skin starts to look dull, dry, pale, or patchy that may indicate an underlying problem. Simple things like food and stress can cause this but if they last for more than a few days there is probably another reason.

Dairy and sugar are the most common foods that can trigger skin issues.

The best foods contain antioxidants like berries, kale, and green leafy vegetables or omega fatty acids like wild salmon.

Fragrance is a common problem ingredient; parabens are another ingredient that is metabolized by the human body.

Skin problems can indicate an issue with the gut microbiome, therefore a full body and lifestyle perspective should be used to identify the root causes of skin symptoms.
