The duo meet Theresa Loo, Pharmacist, Health Coach & Podcaster at PharmacistEdit. Born in Malaysia, she graduated as a pharmacist in New Zealand and gained experience in the UK before moving to Australia. Theresa Loo is the eldest of 3 girls, and has enjoyed a diverse career in pharmacy in the community, hospital and education fields. Her passion lies in preventative medicine having had contact with so many patients with complications from chronic disease - it was heart-wrenching for her to see them go through the journey. So she thought she could make more of an impact in early intervention to prevent the complications of chronic disease. She focuses on type 2 diabetes. Could it because both her grandfathers suffered from the complications of type 2 diabetes? She will join us shortly to share why she’s all in to prevent and keep diabetes in remission! On a side note, husband and her have 3 chickens; Snap, Crackle and Pop, and enjoy being part of the self-sufficient community in Brisbane.
She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Health & Wellness Coach, Certified Trainer & Assessor, Accredited Consultant Pharmacist, Postgraduate Certificate in Medicines Information & Management. Theresa helps people find the best interventions to naturally resolve chronic conditions, overcome limiting beliefs and connect their health back to their ultimate purpose in life.
Theresa specialises in reviewing medicines, checking for side-effects interactions as a DMMR or HMR pharmacist in the Brisbane region. As a pharmacist and health coach, Therese facilitates your why, helps you dig deeper into what’s holding you back and supports you to create sustainable change so you can reach your health goals. She has a special interest in reversing and preventing chronic disease through diet, lifestyle and nutrition. Her own health journey has opened her eyes to the strengths and weakness of mainstream as well as alternative therapies. Her philosophy is to treat the root cause of the condition, utilising all therapies. Her health coaching sessions are available via Zoom or TeleHealth.

This recording was recorded on pitch day at the Motion Picture Association Asia Pacific Script to Screen Workshop Pitch Competition co-organised with Wildsnapper Films and FINAS held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in Feb 2019. Voices in this pitch include judges of the competition:
• Zabrina Fernandez, Wildsnapper Films (facilitator)
• U-Wei Haji Saari, film director
• Stephen Jenner, VP Communications APAC Motion Picture Association
• Jason Van Genderen, filmbreaker & creative agitator
-- Since the film project has been delayed due to a certain pandemic, and with movement restricted in Kuala Lumpur, the producers decided to push on with this podcast, and keep the work going to spread awareness about health and wellness, in particular about non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, lung diseases, cancers, Alzeheimers and dementia. We call this Mission 2030 and our goal is to halve NCDs by year 2030 in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Enjoy this sneak peek into our pitch day, and do drop us a voice message if you’d like to share a personal story.

Jasmine Low & Nikki Yeo
Introducing Papi Zak, well known in the comedy circuit in Malaysia and the “biggest” Malaysia has to offer, states his website. For over 12 years, he's written and performed material for his shows, and has fast established his quirky brand of humour and witty observations on the absurdities of every-day life. Zak was a former LiteFM and REDFM radio broadcaster and his comfortable presence in front of a camera has landed him screen work as the host of two television lifestyle programs – ‘The Halal Foodie’ and ‘Happy Endings’. Zak is currently the brand ambassador for Mr. Potato. Papi Zak speaks to co-hosts Jasmine Low and Nikki Yeo about his fitness journey - how he shed over 30kg from his 160kg stature, his childhood as a third culture kid, his mother's amazing cooking, his quest to inspire others on the path towards fitness - just as he has and his relationship... with food!
In this same episode, you'll hear the voices of Dr. Pran Yoganathan, gastroenterologist featured in the next episode and Dr. Desmond Menon, medical lab scientist from Ep. 2. Papi poses some curious questions Dr. Pran and together, we learn about satiety, cholesterol levels and gout. In the tradition of AsiaFitnessToday.com's methods of using rhythm and movement as therapy, we introduce a comedy skit by Papi Zak at a TimeOut Kuala Lumpur show to seal off this episode. Enjoy!

In this 3rd episode of The Kurang Manis Podcast, we meet Dr. Pran Yoganathan, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist based in Sydney. A passionate educator, a Mathematician-turned doctor who has lived in Sri Lanka, Africa, New Zealand and Australia, Dr. Pran wants to put the power in his patients' hands and provide them with data so that they can embark on their own journeys of self-healing using the philosophy of “let food be thy medicine”. Harnessing creative technology and 14,400 followers on Instagram @dr_pran_yoganathan, he stresses that his educational memes are not medical advice or recommendations, simply his opinions -- and rather strong science-backed opinions they are too! Find out why Dr. Pran's diet of choice - grass-fed steak and eggs has raised eyebrows and temperatures not just in the oven, but in conversation with peers as well. Ask him about butyrate and you'll get him all fired up and excited! Now, are WE ready to absorb the fact that we're meant to burn fat for energy and not glycogen? Let's save that for perhaps another episode. Joining co-hosts Jasmine Low and Nikki Yeo in this same episode are Dr. Desmond Menon, medical lab scientist featured in Ep. 2 Do Our Genes Predispose us to Diseases of our Parents and Malaysia's "biggest" stand-up comedian Papi Zak.
