  • Guilty From the Grave: 1974 Murder Solved
The decades-old mystery surrounding the death of a woman found nearly decapitated in Provincetown has finally been solved. Investigators have officially closed the case of the woman, known for nearly 50 years as the "Lady of the Dunes," after identifying her as Ruth Marie Terry and naming her husband, Guy Muldavin, as the suspect in her murder.

In a significant breakthrough made in October 2022, the FBI positively identified the "Lady of the Dunes" as Ruth Marie Terry. Her body was discovered in a sand dune on July 26, 1974, with her hands cut off and her head nearly severed from her body. The investigators used investigative genealogy to identify Terry, a resident of Tennessee. The FBI revealed that Terry had suffered a blow to the head and was most likely killed several weeks before her body was discovered.

The Massachusetts State Police took over the investigation from Provincetown Police in 1982. Terry's skull, which was kept in police custody and not buried with her other remains, was sent to labs for testing. In 2021, Othram was able to create a DNA profile that eventually led to a positive identification. The Chief Medical Examiner's Office issued Terry's death certificate on April 5.

The investigation then turned to Terry's husband, Guy Muldavin. The couple got married in Reno, Nevada, in either 1973 or 1974, and traveled to Tennessee to visit Terry's family. Muldavin and Terry traveled together in the summer of 1974, but Muldavin returned alone. He indicated to witnesses that Terry had passed away but told her brother that they had a fight during their honeymoon and he had not heard from her again.

The District Attorney's Office revealed that Muldavin was also believed to be the prime suspect in the disappearance of his ex-wife and stepdaughter in Seattle in 1960. Investigators determined that Muldavin was responsible for Terry's death in 1974.

Muldavin, who also went by the names Raoul Guy Rockwell and Guy Muldavin Rockwell, died in 2002. In November 2022, Massachusetts State Police announced they were seeking information about him. Detectives investigated the 1960 disappearance of his wife and stepdaughter and later found human remains in the septic tank of their home. Although Muldavin was arrested for unlawful flight and convicted of grand larceny, he was never charged in relation to the Seattle killings.

A news article dated December 1, 1960, reported that Muldavin was arrested in New York City after the mutilated bodies of Manzanina Mearns and her 18-year-old daughter, Dolores Ann Mearns, were found in the septic tank. The article noted that detectives found dismembered remains and other parts of human tissue. Dolores and Manzanita disappeared on April 1, 1960.

Muldavin was 78 years old when he died.

The resolution of this case brings a measure of closure to a mystery that has perplexed investigators for decades. Although Muldavin was never brought to justice for his crimes, the identification of Ruth Marie Terry and the determination of her killer have finally shed light on the dark events of the past.

  • Mother of Convicted Dentist Arrested in Connection with 2014 Murder of Florida State Professor
Exactly one week after a wealthy Florida dentist, Charlie Adelson, was convicted of killing his sister’s husband, Dan Markel, his mother, Donna Adelson, 73, has been arrested in connection with the 2014 murder. The arrest took place at Miami Dade International Airport, where Donna Adelson and her husband, Harvey Adelson, were about to board a flight to Vietnam with a stop in Dubai.

Donna Adelson was charged in connection with the shooting death of Dan Markel, a 41-year-old Florida State University law professor. She has been charged with murder, conspiracy, and solicitation, according to State Attorney Jack Campbell.

Campbell explained the urgency of Donna's arrest, stating, "That's what forced our hand. We started talking to some of our law enforcement partners about the complexities of bringing someone back from Dubai or Vietnam. And that might be a very complicated and lengthy process. So that’s why we had to make a decision quickly."

Prosecutors allege that Donna Adelson played a role in the murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of Dan Markel on July 18, 2014. Markel was shot twice in the head at point-blank range in the garage of his Tallahassee home. He was sitting in his car, talking on the phone when he was attacked and later died in the hospital.

The charges against Donna Adelson stem from a complicated family feud and custody battle involving her daughter, Wendi Adelson, and Dan Markel. After their divorce, Wendi wanted to move to Miami with their two children, but a judge required her ex-husband's consent, which he refused to give. Emails indicate that Donna Adelson was pushing for the move and allegedly wanted her daughter to influence Markel's decision.

Prosecutors argued that Donna Adelson "hated" her son-in-law, particularly after he asked the judge to limit her unsupervised visits with her grandchildren due to alleged disparaging remarks she made about him to the children.

Emotions ran high in the family, as revealed in emails Donna allegedly sent her daughter before Markel's murder. She encouraged Wendi to take control of her life and make Markel miserable. Donna allegedly stated, "You have 5 weeks before your court date... I know you can be a good actress when you want to. I’ve seen you in action. You need to put on the performance of your life!"

During Charlie Adelson's trial for his involvement in the murder, prosecutors argued that he orchestrated the murder-for-hire plot on behalf of his younger sister, Wendi. However, Wendi has denied any involvement and has never been charged.

Prosecutors claimed that Charlie enlisted the help of his then-girlfriend, Katherine “Katie” Magbanua, to hire two men, Sigfredo “Tuto” Garcia and Luis “Tato” Rivera, to carry out the murder. Garcia was convicted in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison for conspiracy. Magbanua was sentenced to life in prison in 2022 after being convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation.

During his trial, Charlie Adelson testified that he had nothing to do with Markel's murder and claimed he was extorted by Magbanua and the two men. He said he had no knowledge of the murder plot until after it happened and that he was threatened with harm if he didn't pay a substantial sum of money.

Now, Donna Adelson faces charges related to the murder plot that has left a lasting impact on the Markel family and the Adelsons. The case continues to unravel a complex web of family dynamics, conspiracies, and legal battles, shedding light on the dark events that led to the tragic death of Dan Markel.

  • Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Suspect Transfers Home to Estranged Wife Amid Murder Trial, Wife Attends Court Appearance
Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, who is facing charges related to the murders of three women more than a decade ago, recently transferred ownership of his Long Island home to his estranged wife, Asa Ellerup. The move comes as Heuermann remains behind bars, and the trial for his alleged crimes is underway. Ellerup, who is closely following the proceedings, attended her husband's court appearance today.

Heuermann, 60, signed over the deed of his Massapequa Park house to Ellerup in September, naming her the sole owner, according to documents obtained by the US Sun. The transfer of ownership was finalized on October 5, and this property had been a focal point of the police investigation into the long-unsolved murders.

The home, which Heuermann had purchased for $170,000 in 1994, had appreciated in value to approximately $530,000 this year. Following Heuermann's arrest in July, Ellerup and their two adult children, Christopher and Victoria, were forced to leave the property while police executed search warrants and combed through it for potential evidence related to the murders.

Ellerup, who filed for divorce about a week after her husband's arrest, recently visited Heuermann in jail for the first time since his incarceration. Her lawyer, Robert Macedonio, confirmed her intention to attend her estranged husband's trial, stating, "She wants to make her own judgment based on the evidence presented at trial."

In addition to the property transfer, Ellerup has filed court documents demanding the return of her husband's extensive collection of legally purchased firearms, as well as any outstanding jewelry, clothing, and cash that were removed from their home during the police search.

Today, Asa Ellerup was present in court during her husband's trial. She appeared somber as she walked in with her legal team and did not make eye contact with any of the members of the media lined up at the courthouse.

Ellerup and Heuermann reportedly locked eyes when he was escorted out in handcuffs. The accused killer's longtime spouse remained composed as her husband flashed her several glances, and she appeared to smile at him.

She then frowned after he turned to face the judge.

Alongside members of her legal team, and possibly a producer for a documentary, Ellerup sat in the third row and listened intently throughout the proceeding.

After the proceeding ended, she exited the courthouse without issuing a comment and was driven away in a white SUV.

Rex Heuermann's attorney, Michael Brown, informed the judge during the proceeding that his team had not yet received the full minutes from the grand jury that voted to indict his client. He said 75 pages were missing.

He also asked for investigation discovery dating back to 2010 and lab report results, which he said were important to have before the trial moved forward.

Prosecutors informed the judge that they provided 200 pages of information and 13,000 photos to Brown on October 17. They said they would send the missing 75 pages sometime in the future.

The judge, Timothy Mazzei of Suffolk County, appeared surprised by the amount of evidence that had been exchanged.

Heuermann's next court date is scheduled for February 6, 2024, as the legal proceedings continue.

It was also revealed that Ellerup has begun collaborating with a documentary crew, possibly for a project following her journey during Heuermann's trial. Her presence in court and her personal exploration of the evidence highlight the complex and emotional nature of this high-profile murder case.

Rex Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, which include the murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Lynn Costello, whose bodies were found on Gilgo Beach in 2010. He is also considered the prime suspect in the killing of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose body was discovered near the others.

Ellerup's visit to her former home, where her children still reside, hints at the ongoing impact of these chilling crimes on the lives of those involved. As the trial unfolds, the public and media will continue to closely follow this case, seeking justice and answers to the mysteries that have haunted Gilgo Beach for years.

  • Arrest Made in the Tragic Death of Former NHL Player Adam Johnson
In a tragic incident that shook the world of ice hockey, former NHL player Adam Johnson lost his life due to a fatal neck injury inflicted during a game. On Tuesday, authorities in England arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with Johnson's untimely death.

Adam Johnson, 29, was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in a Champions Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers on October 28 when tragedy struck. The fatal injury occurred when the blade of a skate cut Johnson's neck, leading to his immediate treatment on the ice and subsequent transportation to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead.

The South Yorkshire Police did not disclose the suspect's identity or age, but he is currently in police custody.

This heart-wrenching incident has prompted calls for enhanced safety measures in ice hockey. Johnson's death has sparked discussions regarding the mandatory use of neck guards, with the English Ice Hockey Association announcing plans to implement rules regarding neck protection, set to take effect in 2024.

The NHL and NHL Players Association have also engaged in discussions surrounding player safety and the use of protective equipment. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman stated, "Whether it's something that's mandated directly or on a phased-in basis, that's something we'll discuss with the players' association."

The main criminal charge in this case is involuntary manslaughter, which involves unintentionally causing the death of another person due to recklessness, negligence, or an unlawful act. Unlike voluntary manslaughter, which involves intentional killing without prior intent, involuntary manslaughter deals with unintended deaths resulting from a failure to exercise due care.

In assessing the situation, it is crucial to consider whether Matt Petgrave, the player responsible for the skate blade incident, intended the act but not the outcome. While Petgrave did not have any intention to kill Johnson, his actions could be deemed reckless or negligent.

Petgrave's potential defense may include arguing that the incident was an accident, claiming that he did not mean to raise his leg intentionally, but was rather affected by contact with an opposing player, causing him to lose balance and inadvertently raise his leg.

However, experts suggest that Petgrave raising his leg intentionally may be the more plausible explanation based on the laws of physics and the nature of the act.

It's important to note that criminal charges related to incidents on the playing field are rare, typically reserved for cases where a player clearly intended to harm another player. In this case, while Petgrave's actions were negligent, the unique nature of the incident may present challenges for prosecutors in securing a conviction.

The arrest in connection with Adam Johnson's tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the importance of player safety in sports, sparking discussions and potential changes in protective equipment regulations to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.

  • Decades-Long Mystery Solved: Victim Known as 'Baby Jane Doe' Identified After 35 Years
In a significant breakthrough, authorities have finally identified the victim known for nearly 35 years as "Baby Jane Doe," whose disfigured remains were discovered in rural Georgia in 1988. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced this development in a news release on Monday.

The remains were found by road workers on December 21, 1988, concealed inside an old television cabinet encased in concrete near Millwood in Ware County. The victim has now been identified as Kenyatta "KeKe" Odom, who was just 5 years old at the time of her tragic death.

Kenyatta's mother, 56-year-old Evelyn Odom, and her mother's then-live-in boyfriend, 61-year-old Ulyster Sanders, were arrested last Thursday. Both individuals reside in Albany, Georgia, and are facing charges of murder and aggravated battery, among other counts.

According to details revealed in an indictment obtained by HuffPost, Odom and Sanders are alleged to have submerged parts of Kenyatta's body in hot water, resulting in her untimely death and severe disfigurement of her legs and feet. Subsequently, they concealed her lifeless body in an "undeveloped location" to evade detection.

During a news conference on Monday, GBI Special Agent in Charge Jason Seacrist provided further insights into the grim discovery. Kenyatta's remains were found wrapped in a blanket, placed inside a duffel bag, and encased in concrete within the TV cabinet.

While the child's death was initially ruled a homicide, investigators struggled to pinpoint the cause of death or identify suspects, leaving the case unsolved for decades.

Over the years, authorities made multiple attempts to identify the victim through media coverage and forensic testing available at the time. However, it wasn't until 2022 that a crucial breakthrough occurred. Following the airing of a news story commemorating the anniversary of Kenyatta's death, a tipster from the public came forward.

The tipster expressed confidence in identifying the victim and pointing towards a suspect, Evelyn Odom, who had claimed that Kenyatta had gone to live with her father.

As the case unfolds, it's worth noting that both Evelyn Odom and Ulyster Sanders do not have listed attorneys at this time, and it remains unclear when their next court appearances are scheduled.

This revelation marks a significant milestone in a decades-long mystery that has now provided answers and closure for a young victim who had been known only as "Baby Jane Doe" for far too long. Authorities continue their efforts to bring justice to those responsible for this tragic and heinous crime, as the community reflects on this long-awaited resolution.

  • Teen from Netflix's "Take Care of Maya" Files Criminal Complaint Against Hospital for Sexual Abuse
Maya Kowalski, the 17-year-old at the center of the popular Netflix documentary "Take Care of Maya," has filed a criminal complaint against Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Maya alleges sexual abuse during her hospitalization, which adds to the hospital's recent legal troubles.

Maya's attorney, Greg Anderson, confirmed that she submitted the complaint to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s department, citing incidents of assault and battery that occurred between October 8 and October 13, 2016, during her stay at the hospital. This development follows a Florida jury's ruling in a medical malpractice case that found the hospital liable for a series of wrongdoings.

In the medical malpractice case, the jury determined that the hospital wrongly separated Maya from her mother, Beata Kowalski, who subsequently took her own life. As a result, the hospital is now facing substantial damages amounting to $261 million. The jury's award included compensation for multiple offenses, such as subjecting Maya to 48 hours of continuous video surveillance and having her undress down to shorts and a training bra for a photograph. Additionally, it was found that a hospital staffer engaged in misconduct by kissing 10-year-old Maya and having her sit on their lap.

Attorney Greg Anderson revealed that Maya had suppressed the memory of the alleged sexual abuse until approximately four weeks ago when she disclosed it to the psychiatrists who treated her during her time at the hospital. In response to these allegations, the hospital released a statement through its attorneys, stating, "These allegations originally arose during trial and were not admitted into the case. As soon as the hospital became aware of the allegations, and in accordance with their policies, they immediately initiated an internal investigation and contacted law enforcement last month. Federal privacy laws restrict Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital from sharing more, but the hospital takes allegations of this nature very seriously and always puts the safety of their patients above all else."

Maya Kowalski's hospitalization at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in October 2016 was prompted by her mother, Beata Kowalski, seeking treatment for her daughter's painful neurological condition known as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. Beata advocated for aggressive ketamine treatment, a method she believed had previously provided relief for Maya's symptoms. However, medical professionals at the hospital grew suspicious of Beata's demands, ultimately diagnosing her with Munchausen by proxy syndrome, a condition where a parent exaggerates or fabricates their child's symptoms for attention.

Throughout the trial, Maya testified that hospital staff had dismissed her condition as imaginary and had not taken her pain seriously. The hospital reported suspected child abuse to Florida child welfare authorities, leading to an investigation that resulted in Maya being made a medical ward of the state, separating her from her family. Tragically, Beata Kowalski took her own life in their family home's garage three months later.

As Maya continues to grapple with the aftermath of her experiences, her criminal complaint against the hospital adds another layer of complexity to the legal and ethical questions surrounding her treatment and the hospital's responsibilities.

  • Convicted Murderer Lori Vallow Alleged Mastermind Behind Child and Rival's Murder Conspiracy, Claims Co-Conspirator's Attorney
Lori Vallow, the convicted murderer already serving three life sentences without parole, has been labeled as the "driving force" behind the conspiracy to kill her children and her romantic rival, according to allegations made by her alleged co-conspirator's attorney, John Prior.

In three court documents filed on Thursday, Prior asserted that Chad Daybell, Vallow's fifth husband, was under Vallow's control and manipulated by her. He further claimed that Vallow groomed her late brother, Alex Cox, to carry out the murders of her children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and J.J. Vallow, 7, as well as Chad Daybell's first wife, Tammy Daybell. Prior went as far as to suggest that Vallow "handed her son off to be killed by Alex."

The grim discovery of J.J.'s intact body buried in a garbage bag near Tylee's burned and dismembered remains on Daybell's Salem property shocked the nation on June 9, 2020. That same day, Chad Daybell was arrested and has remained in custody at the Fremont County Jail since then. It is believed that the children were murdered in September 2019 and buried on Daybell's property shortly afterward. Tammy Daybell met a tragic end due to suffocation in her Salem home on October 19, 2019, according to court records. Just two weeks later, Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow tied the knot in Hawaii.

John Prior's legal motions are aimed at striking the death penalty from Chad Daybell's case, based on the argument of relative culpability. He asserts that Vallow's influence on Daybell was substantial and that Daybell should not face the same punishment as Vallow. Prior cited statements from the state indicating that "Lori manipulated Chad through emotional and sexual control," and "Chad was not going to act without Lori saying so."

In a second filing, Prior emphasized that Vallow remained in charge of the conspiracy throughout and argued that the state should not present theories of relative culpability that differ from Vallow's trial. Failure to do so, Prior warned, could result in "unreasonably disparate sentences" for the co-defendants, violating the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

In a third filing, Prior claimed that Daybell was unaware that requesting a speedy trial could help him avoid the death penalty. Vallow declined to waive her right to a speedy trial, and additional evidence introduced shortly before her trial led to the removal of the death penalty from her case. Prior stated that Daybell's initial waiver might be called into question if the death penalty is not struck from his case, potentially raising concerns about ineffective assistance of counsel under the Sixth Amendment.

A hearing is scheduled for November 29 at the Fremont County Courthouse in St. Anthony, where the defense, prosecution, and Judge Steven Boyce will discuss the possibility of removing the death penalty from Chad Daybell's case. They may also consider Daybell's request to allow cameras during his hearings leading up to his trial scheduled for April 1, 2024, in Ada County. Monthly pre-trial meetings between all parties are planned ahead of the April trial.

  • Son of Former Hollywood Agent Arrested in Connection to Grisly Murder Investigation
Samuel Haskell IV, the 35-year-old son of former Hollywood agent Samuel Haskell III, has been taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on suspicion of murder. The arrest follows the disturbing discovery of a dismembered woman's torso in a dumpster, believed to be connected to the disappearance of Haskell's wife, Mei Haskell, and her parents.

The investigation began when a homeless man searching for recyclables stumbled upon the gruesome find in a dumpster approximately five miles from Samuel Haskell IV's Tarzana residence. Before this discovery, construction workers had reported seeing suspicious black bags near Haskell's home, raising concerns. However, by the time the police arrived, the bags had vanished.

LAPD Detective Efren Gutierrez stated, "There was no evidence that allowed the officers to make entry into the home" during their initial visit. But when the dismembered torso matched the description of the bags reported by the workers, a second crime scene was established at Haskell's residence, where investigators uncovered "blood evidence."

Authorities had already received reports of Mei Haskell, 37, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang, 64, and Gaoshan Li, 72, missing before the grim discovery, and their whereabouts remain unknown as of today. The couple's three children were located at school and subsequently placed under the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Police believe the dismemberment may have been an attempt to delay the identification process, and they will rely on DNA evidence to determine the victim's identity.

Samuel Haskell IV's connection to the entertainment industry through his father, Samuel Haskell III, is notable. The elder Haskell served as the executive vice president of the William Morris Agency, representing numerous prominent figures in Hollywood, including George Clooney, Dolly Parton, and Whoopi Goldberg. Haskell III retired in 2005 and currently presides over Magnolia Hill Productions.

Haskell III's career also included a stint as the CEO of the Miss America organization, but he resigned amid controversy over emails containing harsh criticism and vulgar comments about past winners.

This arrest is not Samuel Haskell IV's first brush with the law. Records obtained by the LA Times reveal that in December 2008, he faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon, ultimately pleading no contest to battery and receiving three years' probation in 2010.

A neighbor who had a friendship with Mei Haskell expressed concerns about Samuel Haskell IV, stating, "Something seemed so weird. I kept saying to my family, 'Something is wrong with her husband.'"

Samuel Haskell IV is currently being held on $2 million bail at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys in connection with the gruesome torso discovery. The investigation into this chilling murder case continues, with authorities working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this shocking tragedy.
