Think about this… the mood that you're in determines everything. We all sort of know - your mindset determines your reactions. But in the last month I've been obsessed with the idea of how real it is that literally everything that happens to you is a result of the mindset you had going into the situation. Real life example - we're all eating and my husband says- gosh mom makes great eggs… and great french toast. Now that I think about it, we all just really only like the breakfast foods that she cooks. If I'm in a good headspace my response is- WOW Dad's got jokes huh? You're welcome darling, you're welcome! Or if I'm in a bad headspace my response is likely - You've gotta be F-ing kidding me do you know how many HOURS I spend cooking meals for all of you and then you guys all head up to your happy spaces and relax while I get to clean it all up? What an ungrateful and inconsiderate thing to say you Now if you know me there is no bigger kick in the gut. I spend so many hours in the kitchen trying to make super healthy yet super delicious foods that everyone likes. I know he's trying to be funny- but I also know that there's some truth to what he's saying… but my reaction determines how the WHOLE THING goes. Does it end up in a full on argument because that was a hurtful jab in front of the kids? Or am I able to take the hit and serve it right back and we chalk it up to we all don't take each other so seriously? Think about it… if you're irritated and someone says something irritating to you… you're on fire! You were basically waiting to get on fire. But if you're in a good happy headspace, you're able to laugh it off or ignore it or realize this is a THEM issue not a YOU issue. Whether it's with your spouse or a coworker or your kids… anyone in your life. So how do we hack it? We pause life and get back in a good headspace when we are off… or we pull back and don't do so many things. There's no point in being somewhere if you're in a bad mood while you're there. Today we are deep diving into how our headspace affects everything around us. Here are some things that Lindsay talks about: -It's all about perspective! -Figure out what makes you the happiest -People are the happiest when you get to do what you want to be doing -Are we looking for quick highs? Or actual -This is why I talk so much about getting in your 10s. -Self care - slow it down and do the things that make you happy. -Be alone. -We have to cut complaining and stop being around people who complain. -Take full accountability for it - this is so empowering because we control what happens to us. Nobody else controls our happiness. -Not letting mistakes get you down. -Look forward -Put in work instead of complaining - about whatever it is - that you are in debt or overweight etc. Your headspace is everything. Fight like hell to stay in a good headspace and recalibrate when you can tell that you're off. CHEERS to you and your happy headspace!
This is the PERFECT time to plan out your holiday events. I'm not like a bring pumpkins out in August type of person but I am a plan a few months ahead for the busiest months of the year type of person. Today we are talking about getting your calendar going for October, November and December. It may seem early to plan for the holidays but it will make your life so much easier… plus the way we're going to do it is so much fun. I have lots of ideas for you for each month so you fill it intentionally with adventures that sound fun to you and your crew. It's the best way to save time and money and chaos in your life I'm telling you. By thinking of these things ahead of time, you don't spend time racing around trying to find something that works the day before or the morning of… PLUS you save money because you can weigh out your options ahead of time and it's almost always more awesome. We are doing some awesome early holiday event planning today! I do everything on paper calendars and I love it.. but if you don't use a paper calendar already.. print out just the months of October, November and December. Put in anything you already know the dates for first. Then brain dump the things you might do or want to plan for. It's the best way to save time and money and chaos in your life I'm telling you. By thinking of these things ahead of time, you don't spend time racing around trying to find something that works the day before or the morning of… PLUS you save money because you can weigh out your options ahead of time and it's almost always more awesome. Like I'm obsessed with a baker who makes the cutest cookies - they are $4 each and so custom and personalized - so I'll ping her for the 3 major events I have going on during this holiday season. Maybe you bring them as a hostess gift for someone throwing a holiday party or have your kids give them to teachers with a gift card for a holiday gift… there are just so many things! (Cookie contact: [email protected]) I'm a huge plan of planning ahead and ordering online or through email/text/etsy - love supporting small businesses too, and often more unique and personalized - and it's done! No stress or panic our just buying to buy whatever you can find at the last minute. And reservations! I love making lunch and dinner reservations ahead of time so it's never a stress not having an option when you want to go out. Even if I don't know exactly who is going yet or if it will work out, I look at the calendar and make reservations based on how the weeks are looking and just cancel ahead of time if it doesn't work. It takes me a few hours every other month and then we're never stuck starving waiting an hour for a table at a restaurant. Stress eliminated! Here are some fun ideas of things to get on your calendar for the upcoming fun holiday months. (Let's not spend the next 3 months in a mall!) We all know the benefits of exercise. It's good for us in the short term and in the long term… it's good for us physically and mentally. But, it's often hard to find the time or motivation or to get momentum going with it. Today's podcast is all about finding fitness that you LOVE, so you look forward to it and you enjoy it, versus seeing it as chore and something you kinda dread but do it because you feel like you have to do it. We're talking about your relationship with fitness today… how you think about it and approach it… and how changing up what you're doing and how you think about it could be one of the biggest game changers in your overall physical health but even more so for your mental health. Focusing on fitness that you do at the start of everyday in a way that when you end, you feel like the best version of yourself, going into the day. Approaching fitness in a creative way allows you to really lean into the movement that makes you feel the best and that you enjoy doing. And it shifts from something dreaded to something that makes you feel alive and strong and more balanced and centered. Here are some of the points Lindsay discusses: -Change it up is key -Watch or listen to something interesting to keep the time moving **pick ahead of time! So there is no wasting time when it's game time -Challenge your body with new movement Fitness ideas: trampoline, heavy weights, running distance challenges, sculpt classes via OBE fitness online, running stairs with a body weight on, running the beach, boxing. -Momentum is everything - it's more about the consistency of it than what you actually do. Show up everyday (or almost everyday) and give as much as you have each day. -Fitness can feel like this morning clarity - physically and mentally -Get something hard in before the day even gets going - get in an early win -Do it alone or with friends depending on what feels best to you -Build it into the routine - it's already been decided and time made for it -Love it so much that you do it on vacation -The best way to get momentum is just start. You don't a full plan or fancy equipment just move your body to get going. The feeling will be enough to start the motivation. -Make it your own competition to beat yourself - you're in a solo competition. Comparing to social media or other people is always a losing game. We aren't here to be the 80% versions of ourselves. Let's get up and move and start our days feeling ALIVE and strong and powerful. The discipline of it builds self confidence and happiness. And that's AWESOME!
We have the BEST happiness hack to share with you today! It's all about focusing in on those little things that make you so happy on the daily - the things Lindsay calls your 10s. Some could take 10 seconds and others 10 minutes and others and hour. The whole point is to identify each week, those things that make you feel alive and bring joy to your days. Then, let's write them down and make it like a game… a challenge to hit them each day. We often look to the BIG moments and days… like special events and birthdays or Mother's Day… and we love those celebrations but sometimes things don't go as planned… someone gets sick or the day goes sideways. That's why we love leaning into the small moments - those little things that make you happy on the daily. Lindsay swears by this method. It helps you feel overall more happy and centered and energetic and have more patience and compassion - because you're getting in those things that make you feel the BEST. It's your daily challenge to get in as many 10s as you can… and be intentional with how you spend your time… and the result is having days that feel more full and fulfilling and happy. Here are some points Lindsay makes: -Get a fun note-pad- it totally helps! -It makes you happier and gives you "self time" without setting aside time for a facial and a massage. It's little things all day long. -BEST part is that it helps you be the best version of yourself - the person you want to be. When you're pouring from an empty cup- you feel depleted. You're wiped and less patient and not enjoying the day as much as you could. Doing it this way, when your kids are hard or someone at work is being an asshole, you're coming to the situation with a much better perspective and mindset. You're constantly doing things you love and feeling fulfilled - so you are better prepared for the challenges and handle them in the way you want to. -Do this at the start of the week- Sunday or Monday -These are not goals! This is happiness based! -Separate them best by when you are most likely to do them- and when it feels best. -Two ways to separate it…. AM Mid Day PM OR Mind/Body Connections Health -In the am we have the most energy and focus - so put those things here. -In the afternoon- do the more creative thinking things or writing - group work. -Change it up each week Examples- Lindsay's List! AM Workout (before everyone is awake) Yummy Coffee Supplements Journal Get ready early Mid Day Supplements Healthy lunch that gives me fuel Connect with a friend Make progress on Craig's health PM Make healthy homemade meal- eat together Yummy dessert Walk dog with fam Fun evening activity - hot tub, group game Stretch before bed Supplements Read with Parker before bed Chill time with each girl in bed/couch Alone time with Craig Get 7 hours of sleep Here is the link to Lindsay's favorite ever check list pad to do this hack: https://amzn.to/3P3BOu5 CHEERS to adding in your 10's to your days with this awesome hack! 💕
How to be awesome at living with enthusiasm without fear of judgment. Whatever it is that you love or are passionate about… we're talking about going all in - full enthusiasm with it.
It seems like society lately is just so sensitive and reactive and judgmental.
We forget that you don't have to listen or pay attention to anything that bothers you. Turn it off, don't give it any energy, problem solved.
Judgment is at an all time high around us and it's changing who we are and what we do or don't do.
So many people aren't living the lives they want or taking about or pursuing their passions because of what people will think.
This podcast is your wake up reminder… to be your authentic energetic self, whatever that is… because people are going to judge you either way and you'll likely never really know what people are thinking or saying about you anyway… and when you're 90 looking back on life, there's no chance you're going to wish you worried more about other people's opinions of you. No way, but you will regret not going all in on that things that make you feel alive.
Here are some of the things Lindsay talks about:
-When you're 90, you won't care what those strangers on social media said about your reel being lame or you had too much enthusiasm at a swim meet.
-There is only ONE TIME when I think we should tone it down. ONE!
-Judgment is around us all the time!
-You know what the best practice is not to worry about it?
Don't judge other people yourself!
-Worry about yourself!
If you have judging thoughts - think about what that means
-If you're in a mindset where dragging someone else down makes you feel better, it's time to recalibrate.
We need to get going in the other direction.
And let's figure out what it means - what are they accomplishing or doing that might make you feel jealous in some way?
-Because judgment is always about the person judging, a reflection on something they feel about themselves or a shortcoming of their own that they are trying to compensate for.
-Judgment is at an all time high.
-Technology is exposing how much this is going on.
-I think that judgment is at an me high around us and it's changing who we are and what we do or don't do.
-Judgment is often why you haven't done the thing!
Whatever that is!
-It's crazy to limit our lives because of what people may or may not think about you.
-Changing our mindset requires doing it over and over again.
-We all LOSE when people silence themselves. HOW have we gotten to a place where we aren't sure if we can be friends with people who think differently than us? I LOVE people who have different opinions because that's the best way to learn.
-As human beings, we are super social creatures. We are meant to be with our groups. It's a survival thing.
-This is the problem with censorship on social media and cancel culture - it primes us to be afraid to share our opinions!
-WHY can't we be ok with people have differing opinions?
-When judgment really stings - when it hits a sensitive spot. Something we feel insecure about.
-You can get 100 positive comments and get 1 negative comment and you focus on that one - because it's hard! Don't read the comments or
Why would you want to feel less confident? When it's usually a reflection of them. You just caught in the crossfire.
-If someone is likely going to give you negative feedback, don't ask for their feedback.
-Why are we allowing people who have been shaped by their own experiences to define us?
-You are going to be judged. We all do it - even if we don't mean to. So we have to work on how much we care.
-It limits us!! Limits our income, our experiences, everything!
-We can't get better at things for fear of failure - failure is how we learn! We rarely learn from successes.
-It is your job to protect your headspace!! It's your responsibility to block it out. The words you say in your head are what you become. You have to be so careful what you listen to.
-Let's talk about killing the messenger!!
What to do when people tell you about other peoples judgment!
Ask them…
What was your motivation in sharing that with me?
How do you think this makes me feel?
What did you think I could do with this?
*Don't over talk it! Let them sit with this!*
-As if they are doing you a favor. Just bringing it to your attention. But there's nothing you can do - it's already out there.
Don't bring me other people's judgment! It's almost knocking you down a bit - from their own insecurity.
-Don't ask questions or defend yourself!
Tell them… you don't want to hear it - even if it's hard!
CHEERS TO LIVING FULLY! Without fear of judgment with FULL enthusiasm!
Today we are talking about how to be a present mom to your kids and also maintain your own identity.
You know, that person you were before you had kids. There is so much to do when you have kids, it's very easy for mom things to take up all your time. Without realizing it, it's easy to slowly stop doing the hobbies you love or spending time your friends without your kids.
We're talking about this today because we don't want to wake up one day and not know who we actually ARE because our entire identity has been wrapped up in the people that we care for.
There are so many layers to the importance of maintaining your own identity and not feeling guilty about it. One thing I know for sure is we are all the best moms we can be, when we are truly happy. That means taking time for yourself, not trying to live up to the expectations of others or trying so hard to make your life look a certain way.
Plus, how great for our kids to see us not only as the people are raising them, but also our own individual awesome selves too who have interests and hobbies and friends and sometimes careers. We will do anything for them and we love them with everything that we are but there's more to us than just our role as mothers.
Today we're talking about how the hell we're going to raise these humans and also have our own awesome individual identity too.
-You're not just a mom - you are so many things. Maybe that means you stepped away from your career. But if you think of yourself as "just a mom" you're discrediting all the other layers there are to you.
Even if you don't work outside the home for pay- you are so much more than a mom. By taking away that "just a mom" label… it opens you up to all the things that you are beyond motherhood.
-You have to give yourself grace - and know that some days you'll fail and some days you'll nail it.
-Be honest with yourself and your shortcomings - rather than trying to be perfect. You will relate to more friends and it takes the pressure off.
-It's very easy to slowly change your personal identity to one that is solely being a mother.
-When you are truly happy, you are the best mom.
-What to do when you've lost this balance
Lean into how you feel.
Journal it - instead of or in addition to telling friends.
Who were you before you were there mom?
She is still there
If your only identify is in relation to who you are for other people
-For new moms - you have to figure out your way of doing it. It will change through ages and stages.
-Make sure your priorities are actually YOUR priorities.
-We have to let go of trying to make our life look a certain way
-And let go of that pressure to live up to other peoples standards
-Let me tell you the honest truth- some days it's a shit show and some days it's smooth for ALL OF US. Whatever you are going through, the majority of moms have gone through some version of it at some point.
-If you always look a certain way and your kids are dressed a certain way, you will feel like you have your shit together because people will view you that way.
-And some of us are better at certain types of parenting and not as much at others.
-You are a mom AND…
like… I'm a mom AND I was a CEO for 20 years
-We are raising kids to LAUNCH!
We aren't raising people to take care of forever.
-We don't want them to just see us living for them.
-And we don't want kids who have everything given to them - to feel like you live for them.
-What is this going to do to the kids if you work?
We don't want them to only know us to take care of them.
-That is how we lose ourselves. We forget what we like, what our hobbies are.
You could wake up one day… and not know WHO you actually ARE.
-When your kids move out, you will feel lost.
-We want our kids to be their own people.
KNOW and recognize when you are off balance. And running on low energy.
-Say to your kids.. I need time for me.
-Makes your kids respect you more too.
This and so much more on today's episode. We hope it inspires you to keep your own happiness and identity a priority as you navigate through this awesome journey of motherhood.
