We usually think about our daily movement and calorie burn in terms of our workouts. How often we workout, what types of workouts, how intensely… but the truth is…. we burn more calories throughout the day than during our actual workout times. We often think of activity as in - did you work out today or not. But Lindsay thinks we should think about it more like… how much did you move your body today overall. We're talking about enjoyable (not painful) ways to get in some extra movement. It's not only good for your body and your overall health and longevity… it's so good for your mental health. Our goal in this episode is to give you lots of ideas of how to sneak in some extra movement so the next time you go to sit to do something… you'll do it while walking or you sit to wait for 20 minutes, you'll consider something active instead. It's so good for you and it's fun! If you can't make it to the gym- don't count that day as a loss! You can still get movement in! The benefits are endless- sleep better and feel better and happier! TIPS!! -Wear ankle weights around the house! (Or out if you dare!) -Focus on the daily - doesn't need this big overall plan. -While your kids do an activity - you do too! -Walk after meals -Lean into days when you have more energy -If you have a desk job, set an alarm and take breaks, walk around. Or standing desk or balance ball! -Wear running shoes when you can (and clothes!) -Keep supplies handy (weights in your car) -Park farther away -Take the stairs -Short workouts when you can - 50 squats when taking your dog out -Do active weekend activities - go bowling!! Or mini golf! -Walk and talk!! -Play WITH your kids instead of watching them -Adventure on the weekends - hikes etc. Plan ahead of time! -Do something on phone calls -Stretch before bed… so good for flexibly and less likely to raid the pantry! The little things you do daily add up!! It's all about momentum and moving your body when you can! Check out Lindsay's Instagram @LindsaysCloud for links to her favorite products mentioned! Ten ways to be more awesome! 1. Follow-up on everything you do. 2. Be where your feet are. 3. Do the unexpected. 4. Don't look out the back window. 5. Face what's off in your life and approach it head on. 6. Have less structure in your life where possible. 7. Remember tomorrow. 8. Allow pointless stress to roll off your back like water off a ducks back. 9. Make things exciting and have enthusiasm. 10. Be willing to try harder than anyone else. We're talking through all these ways to be happier, take your life to the next level and overall just be more awesome. Let's go! -Follow-up on everything you do. Even if it's not the outcome you wanted -Be where your feet are You're there, even if you didn't want to be. Be present Because how you do anything is how you do everything -Do the unexpected Be creative Surprise people The unexpected is what's memorable. -Don't look out the back window. That is old news. You can't change it. Good or bad- check the box and move on. Focus on the road ahead. Time spent otherwise is wasted. -Face what's off in your life and approach it head on. We tend to do things that make us happy, while avoiding the things we need to fix. When you know something is off in your life, or maybe totally broken… FIX IT. Confront it head on and work to correct it. Often we avoid and it gets worse. -Give yourself space to have new ideas and write them in your ideas book. Most will be bad or ones that you won't do anything with - but it just takes one good one. Must write them down. -Have less structure in your life where possible. You likely have more freedom and flexibility than you think. Get out and do things outside of your normal set schedule. Embrace spontaneity and be open-minded. -Remember tomorrow. When you have a split second decision to make, think of how that decision will make you feel tomorrow. Skipping a workout, being unfaithful in your relationship, lying to someone, drinking too much. -Allow pointless stress to roll off your back like water off a ducks back. -Make things exciting and have enthusiasm. Instead of saying "I have to"… say "I get to"… when you think of things in this way they feel more like part of the process and less like chores. -Be willing to try harder than anyone else. If you do the same thing as everyone else, you will get the same results as everyone else. Will Smith says " The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is I'm not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me, you might be all of those things you got it on me in nine categories. But if we get on the treadmill together, there's two things: You're getting off first, or I'm going to die. It's really that simple, right? You're not going to out-work me. It's such a simple, basic concept. The guy who is willing to hustle the most is going to be the guy that just gets that loose ball. The majority of people who aren't getting the places they want or aren't achieving the things that they want in this business is strictly based on hustle. It's strictly based on being out-worked; it's strictly based on missing crucial opportunities. I say all the time if you stay ready, you ain't gotta get ready. CHEERS to striving to be more awesome everyday!
Today we are talking about the vibe in your home- that overall feeling and energy that you create that's so important. Whether you live by yourself or with lots of people, we are going through my list of physical and emotional things that we think you should consider when it comes to creating a home with a really positive and non-stressing feeling. This is one of those things that is easy to not really notice and then one day it hits you and you're like ok this is not good. Maybe you have so much clutter around that it never feels like you're coming home to your happy place- which by the way, should be the goal with all of this. Maybe you are stuck in a routine that is hurried and stressing and that ends up being the tone of the home. The energy around us is just so important. And most of us spend more time at home than anywhere else, plus it's the place where we can have the most control of how it feels. We're creating positive homes vibe today. Let's go! 2 ways!! Physically and emotionally The physical... -Natural sunlight -Get rid of clutter -Open the windows -Keep things that make you happy around -Plants or flowers (real or faux) -Light candles & make sure it smells good -Make your bed -Have sentimental things around -Have a few positive reminders around too! -Less news, more music The emotional... -Reduce the stress- period. Figure out a way to. -Use positive words -Laugh and smile more -Live in the moment - have a healthy relationship with tech at home - especially in the evenings -Think outside the box of ways to make your family vibe cool on the weekend coming up -Invite positive people over! -Plan for spontaneous moments -Think of what would make this really feel like your happy place (and anyone else that lives with you) like a HUGE breath of fresh air after a long day. What does THAT feel like? -When the energy is off.. hack it! Change up the routine -Have healthy foods in the fridge (you feel good when you eat good) -If you are the leader (or one of the leaders) in your house- make sure you make time for yourself so you can show up happy for everyone else. -Treat others well- have a no gossip rule. It may be tempting - but why - envy and jealousy - which it likely is in some way- creates negative energy - the opposite of our goal here. The environment in your home is just so important. It's like the lens you see things through, all day out in the world. Let's work to make it positive and happy.
We are SO busy. There is always something to do - what feels like endless to do lists. We are often giving so much of ourselves to other people and your chores and your job. If you don't get in those things that make you happy - what you are left with is not great - it's called resentment. Resentment towards your kids, your boss, your spouse or significant other, your family… because you feel like you are constantly giving giving giving to one of more of these… without giving yourself what you need. Plus - we have very little downtime these days. Social media is a 24/7 thing and we're getting pinged with texted and emails non-stop. In this episode, we are talking about making it a priority - and a non-negotiable one - to be by yourself and get in those things that make you oh so happy. So your cup is nice and full and you can give your full energy to your work and those you love, and feel great about it. Here are some things Lindsay talks about… -Resentment. Let's define it - a feeling of anger or displeasure about someone or something unfair In this case, it's like bitterness because things are off balance -You might not even realize you're feeling resentful. Maybe your baby was up all night so you had to skip your morning workout - something that your baby didn't do intentionally. Or maybe you're saying yes to too many things at work so you get home late and feel like you have no life of your own then you wake up and do it all over again - so you're resentful to your boss. -Maybe you aren't asking for what you need from your spouse so naturally they aren't doing it - and you feel resentful because he goes and had a beer after work with his buddies and you don't have the luxury to go out with your friends - heck some days you're lucky to get a shower in by noon. This is your sign to change things - rather than allow yourself to have resentment. -Know what makes you happy and make sure you get it in. -And if someone tells you that you can't get what you need - tread carefully - but realize that you have to figure out a way - or you'll have double resentment. -For family relationships- give them the space to get in their 10's and they are much more likely to do the same for you. -Don't let people take too much of you or your time - it doesn't benefit anyone in the long run. -When you are resentful -put your energy towards getting a new plan going - rather than lashing out on them. -It also gives you more patience!! -So we are so busssssy doing all the things… Question- Just because you are busy… does that mean you are being effective or efficient with your time? -Spending time alone… you get a chance to give your brain a break. Like any other muscle, your brain needs a break! You can concentrate better and help you stay focused on your priorities. Turn your phone off and spend some time alone. -It's amazing how clear solutions to your problems come to you when you focus on them without distractions. -Also- it's easier to have a clear focus on who you are and what's important to you. Not just keep your mind constantly entertained- filling every free moment with scrolling or texting or emailing. This is the mind reset you need -What makes you happy? -What gives you joy? -What are you good at? -How you spend your time, your energy and your money says whats important to you. -You cannot pour from an empty cup. -If you are not giving to yourself - you can't give to others. You can't give what you don't have. -Nobody is too busy- it's just a matter of priorities -Other ideas of how to take time for yourself… cook a meal for yourself… read a book… exercise… plan travel… take a hike… listen to your fav music… make a list of goals. We have to know what makes us happy and make sure we get it in, so we have patience when the day goes sideways and don't have resentment towards people in our lives. CHEERS to the things you do for YOU, to have a healthy life balance (free from resentment)!
You can't make somebody change. You can inspire them to change. You can educate them towards change. You can support them in their change.
But you can't make them change. It's stepping on their toes and can hurt your relationship more than help them. Even if you have good intentions.
For a person to truly change, they must feel that the change is theirs, that they chose it, they control it. Otherwise, it loses all its effect.
This is especially important for people who have survived trauma or abuse. Here are a few ways you can help people… 1. Lead by example - show with your actions rather than advice. 2. Ask questions, good ones! 3. Offer Help Unconditionally Ultimately, we are each only capable of changing ourselves. Here's the bottom line:You can't make somebody change. You can inspire them to change. You can educate them towards change. You can support them in their change.
