In this lecture, we’re going to talk about how you can lower your cortisol. Cortisol is a destructive stress hormone. It makes a lot of belly fat and can cause problems throughout the body when your levels are too high.
There’s a lot of confusion about this hormone and how to lower cortisol—let me help clear up the confusion.
The adrenal glands are responsible for creating cortisol. Your adrenals are located in your abdomen right on top of your kidneys. The adrenals react to stress. That’s why cortisol is often referred to as the “stress hormone.”
As you age, the hormone that keeps cortisol in check begins to decline. This hormone is called growth hormone (GH). This allows your cortisol levels to skyrocket. The key is to help increase your growth hormone naturally. The best way to do this is to get good sleep or get more sleep.
Insulin-like growth hormone (IGF) is very similar to growth hormone. This hormone can help regulate your cortisol level. You can increase this hormone by fasting and getting plenty of sleep.
Vitamin D and sunlight can also help lower your cortisol levels. You need regular sun exposure to get plenty of vitamin D.
Walking helps reduce your stress levels, which can lower your cortisol. I recommend walking daily.
You can do acupressure to help pull stress out of the body.
And finally, potassium, vitamin B1, and calcium and fantastic nutrients for regulating cortisol.
