Kate and Emily take the mic! It’s that time of year again- when our wives have yet again so graciously agreed to sit down and talk with us about money! Specifically during this episode we dive into Emily’s and Kate’s backstories and histories with money and how that has influenced us today. We also look back to the early days in our relationship and recount what it was like to combine our money as well as some of the first money fights we had and how we went about solving those disagreements. And then finally we discuss some of the different practices that can help all couples to continue to grow- it’s important that personal finance isn’t something that divides but instead unites relationships!

Dick Fosbury changed the sport of high jumping forever the first time he jumped backward over the bar. Until then, every competitor had launched themselves into the air going forward, belly over the bar. I’m not sure the last time you watched a high jumping event, but now every high jumper uses Dick’s technique. He essentially exploited a flaw in the high jumping world that no-one else was paying attention to. In a way that’s basically what arbitrage is when it comes to our personal finances- it’s about thinking creatively about the different financial hurdles in our lives. It’s about challenging the assumptions we’re faced with. We’ll cover some very clear forms of arbitrage that you might already be implementing, some problems with arbitrage, and then how you can begin developing more of an arbitrage mindset today.

Today on the show we’re talking with one of the greatest minds in the personal finance space- Clark Howard. Clark is a money expert with a heart of gold who hosted his own radio show for over 30 years. I had the pleasure of working with him for 14 of those years. He is also the author of 10 books and continues to produce an excellent podcast daily because he somehow has limitless amounts of energy. But some of his more impressive accomplishments have been via the work he spearheads in Atlanta and the surrounding communities, including his partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, and his annual Clark’s Christmas Kids broadcasts which have helped ensure that over 150,000 kids received presents on Christmas morning that otherwise wouldn’t have.
