February 21, 2022EP95 - Aisling, Two Pregnancies & Births, Vaginal, Unmedicated Births, Breastfeeding, Early MotherhoodIn this episode I share my chat with Aisling who talks me through her two pregnancies and births. I recently asked if you wanted me to keep conversations surrounding early motherhood in the podcast and there was a resounding yes! I have done just that with this episode, I know so many of you will relate to some if not all of what Aisling speaks about. She chats about the initial overwhelm when discovering she was pregnant, her preparation for birth, her experiences (so similar but different in many ways), early motherhood, breastfeeding and much more. Honestly, I just sat back drinking a cup of and listened to her speak. So relatable, as I say in the podcast there will be heads nodding away on Monday morning as you hear Aisling’s episode.Enjoy & thanks again Aisling ❤️ https://www.irelandsbirthstories.ieSupport the podcast - PatreonSupport the podcast - BuymeacoffeeThis weeks SME shoutout is to @feed.me.mother Founder Fiona created a sustainable breastfeeding brand after finding it difficult to source fashionable and comfortable clothing throughout her own experiences with her babies. Jane’s first baby was brought into the world via emergency c-section as she went into labour at 32 weeks. She thought she could feel a cord prolapse but infact it was her little boys foot! Her second baby also came into the world early at 36 weeks but thankfully she had an experience much closer to what she hoped for, a vaginal birth. She shares her struggles with breastfeeding which led to her recently qualifying as an IBCLC which I personally think is amazing. Thank you for sharing your story @bainne.mama and congratulations on passing those exams! This weeks SME shoutout is @cailiekins Cailiekins is a new family run business. February 07, 2022EP93 - (Postpartum Focus) Nicola, Spontaneous Triplets, Caesarean Birth, Postpartum ChatIn this next episode I chat to Nicola who talks me through her spontaneous triplet pregnancy. Nicola and her husband attended an early scan when they discovered they were expecting twins, they left that appointment shocked as many of us would. They later attended their hospital scan around the 3 month mark when they saw a third little one on the monitor. So much changed from that moment on!Nicola was monitored closely in hospital from the latter stages of her second trimester. Thankfully her three babes arrived safely into the world via Caesarean birth after an uncomplicated pregnancy that was initially uncertain. This episode is the first of many I will be asking my guest to chat further about their postpartum experience. Everything Nicola shares will relate to each of you from sleep deprivation, the fog lifting and much more https://www.irelandsbirthstories.iehttps://www.patreon.com/irelandsbirthstorieshttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/CorahgernonProduced & edited by Corah Gernon at She Talks ProductionsShow Your SupportBuy Me A CoffeePatreon Hosted on Acast. January 31, 2022EP92 - Jo & Katie, IVF, Doula Support, Induction, Unmedicated Positive BirthEP92 - Jo & Katie, IVF, Doula Support, Induction, Unmedicated Positive BirthIn this next episode I share my chat with Jo and her wife Katie. I love chatting with couples, watching their faces as they speak about one of the most significant milestones in their lives is pretty special.I wanted to speak to a same sex couple for so long, the wait was so worth it. This is such an important conversation and demonstrates becoming parents as an LGBT couple is possible. They chat about making the decision to become parents, their IVF journey, pregnancy and Sonny’s incredible birth.Together they invested so much time preparing for this huge life event that was ahead of them, the birth of their baby. From hypnobirthing, breastfeeding classes, inviting @pamjdpilatesdoula to support them, acupuncture, books and YouTube videos, they left no stone unturned. January 24, 2022EP91 - Laura, Two Pregnancies & Births, Induction, Uterine infection, Pregnancy Depression, Newborn SepsisIn this next episode I share my chat with Laura who talks me through her two experiences with birth. Laura not only shares her two birth stories but she also chats about other aspects of early motherhood and pregnancy too. The birth of her first little girl definitely wasn’t what Laura expected which she feels contributed to some tough moments as a first time mother.Laura was diagnosed with pregnancy depression while expecting her second baby. She chats about her symptoms, support and how “the lights were turned back on” as a result of receiving the right treatment. Laura was also supported by Jen Crawford Co-founder of @doulacareireland who was at the end of the phone anytime she needed. She changed her mindset, used the BRAIN acronym and told herself she would enjoy this Laura’s daughter was admitted to NICU after a diagnosis of sepsis and a urinary infection. Katie suffered loss, experienced trauma due to an emergency caesarean birth, underwent two positive elective caesarean births and received a PCOS diagnosis. There is so much more in Katie's story but I will let her tell you everything in between from being admitted to hospital for 6 weeks whilst pregnant with her first boy, each of her breastfeeding journeys and constant issues with her blood pressure. Katie also shares that although her first baby is aged 7, she is only now recognising how traumatic his birth was and has sought the help of a councllor who helped her realised this. Another message within this weeks episode for those of you that might need to hear it. January 10, 2022EP89 - Fiona, Four Pregnancies, Three Births, Homebirths, Early Pregnancy LossI just adored listening to Fiona’s three births. Her first homebirth was 10 years ago when we knew very little about the service and her most recent homebirth was in 2018.Her first babe arrived at home by the fire in the birth pool, her second on the landing as her little girl listened to her mama from her bed and her third beneath a tree with the sun on her skin in the arms of her husband.Fiona also shared her experience with early pregnancy loss during the pandemic. As a family they took the time to honour their baby that didn’t make it earthside and I really feel there is such an important message within her story. Very often families who experience early pregnancy loss don’t feel they can fully grieve or that such a loss even justifies grief in the eyes of certain people. Fiona’s family grieved, buried their baby under an Evergreen tree and wrote letters to their little one. So so important to allow yourself to feel how you need to feel!Thank you Fiona! This episode has been brought to you by @waterfulbabywipesWaterful plastic free baby wipes contain 99.9% purified water and are both fragrance free and alcohol free. January 06, 2022Feb 2020 - Georgina - One Pregnancy & Birth, Preparation & Expectations of Life as a First Time MotherFeb 21 - Georgina, One Pregnancy & BirthI love this episode and I’m so fond of Georgina. In this episode I share my chat with Georgina who talks me through her experience with pregnancy and the birth of her little girl Rua. She had such a group of supportive women surrounding her which is so beautiful. They guided her through her preparation into motherhood and in those weeks following Rua's arrival. George wasn't opposed to having an epidural but in the end she brought her little girl into the world with the aid of her 900 song playlist, a husband who she recalls reminded her of a gym coach "breathe in, out, in, out" and the presence of two midwives who were the perfect pairing.A gorgeous light hearted chat about an experience described as "wild but good" This episode has been brought to you by @waterfulbabywipesWaterful plastic free baby wipes contain 99.9% purified water and are both fragrance free and alcohol free. On her first pregnancy, second stage of labour was so quick with her little man entering the world swiftly. She talks us through a rough few weeks of breastfeeding and the support she availed of to help her alleviate the constant discomfort. She had a C-section with her second pregnancy due to the presence of meconium in her waters and also inconsistencies inconsistencies on the monitor readings with baby.Throughout her third pregnancy she was crippled with SPD and unfortunately needed the support of crutches in the latter stages of her final trimester.
